I keep buying algae eaters and they keep dying and I don't know why, there is lots of algae in the tank or do they need their own special food?

You haven't specified what type of algae eaters. It may be that your tank runs at the wrong temperature, or the other conditions aren't right. Check out this list to figure out what type of algae eaters you want (although I find Chinese algae eaters to be exceptional for this purpose). Large apple/mystery snails are also a good choice.

I would check the amonia and ph. Find out what type of bottom feeder goes best with what type of ph and ammonia levels.

The pet store where you are getting them may have bad fish too. You can take your water to them. Most pet stores will test for free and if your water is good, most will give you your money back or give you a free fish. Of course, you have to take the dead fish with you.

What type of other fish do you have. A Placo is a very hardy algae eater and has a thorny fin that protects if from the most agressive of fish. However, it needs to be large if your fish are agressive.

Go to the pet store and start asking some questions. If you don't get anything satisfactory there, you can go to another pet store.

Good Luck and Take Care

I supplement mine with algae disk. They eat those and algae off the tank. That may be your problem if the other fish are OK.

The only thing I can think what is going on in your tank, is that your tank could be sick, or you are buying sick algae eaters, they do love blood worms

80 5°F is only too heat, for many tropical fish besides. decrease it to seventy six-seventy 8°F. what form of algae eater? the only "orange" algae eater i'm able to think of of is a "golden" algae eater, that's a chinese language algae eater. precisely how lots salt are you making use of interior the tank? My guess may well be, the salt is killing them off, and in all probability the better temp besides. maximum algae eaters, a minimum of pleco kinds do not tolerate salt ok. they are in a position to for short classes, yet long classes, no. additionally with regard to the salt, freshwater fish do not prefer, neither is it a stable thought to maintain salt in a tank on a generic foundation like that. particular, mollies can tolerate brackish circumstances, even finished marine whilst acclimated slowly, yet aquarium salt isn't the right salt to apply. you ought to use marine salt to make a tank brackish/marine. Aquarium salt with freshwater fish could basically be used whilst treating nitrite poisoning or for treating parasites, like ich. And, so a strategies as mollies could have a brackish tank....i've got stored them the two strategies, and truthfully, those in freshwater survived longer. Others will say the alternative. I say, to each their very own. yet, you're making use of the incorrect style of salt. How long has it been considering you have executed a water substitute? could be doing 25% weekly water ameliorations. undesirable water high quality could have effects on some fish greater immediately then others. How are you cleansing your filters? you do not prefer to bypass overboard and be Mr. sparkling on those. grimy isn't undesirable whilst it includes filters on fish tanks. as quickly as a month-greater in many situations counting on how stocked the tank is, rinse the clear out pads off in a bucket of used tank water. basically could change them out each 3 months or whilst they commence not filtering the water out ok. something greater then that, and the clear out pad manufactuers commence loving you for spending all that funds.

Do you have any other bottom feeders in there? They might be getting killed by the others. Also check PH and ammonia levels.
