and you can also report underage users, so even they lie, they can be caught. i've reported plenty of users for lying about their age as it is.

i'm also not saying it would work, i'm asking if it's a good idea. for it to work, that would require some parenting and since a lot of parents don't want to do their job, it's not foreseeable.

I think the age you can join the army, that you can vote, smoke ciggarettes or drink alcohol should be tied together. If you're old enough to do any of those, you're old enough to do all of them. IF you raise the age on myspace, the kids will just go elsewhere. The net is good for one thing, and that is satisfying needs.

Yes! Thank you. I have been saying this all along. I know there are a lot of 14-17 year olds who are responsible with their myspace accounts, but there are also so many that put themselves at risk. It's become like a dating site for pedophiles.
As much as I love your idea, I don't think myspace will ever go for it because the majority of their clients are highschool and middleschool kids. If they were told they couldn't use it anymore, they would just lie about their age.

The age should be raised because kids are prone to meeting with and talking to predators. Besides, children should not participate in adult conversation. I doubt that Myspace would be successful because the kids would just lie and say that they are 18+ when they register.

I don't know. How would they verify it? Have you click on a button that said you were 18, with no real way of proving it? i think everyone must take responsibilities for their actions, and how they treat people....whether it's just having fun, or stalking someone. I think that it's better to know up front that there are younger kids on the site, so that everyone tries to maintain at least a modicum of responsible behavior, because you never knnow who it is behind that screen name, right? Sometimes I think that the worry that a person is talking to a kid is all that stops them from pursuing some really inappropriate behaviors.
Would you want to change YA to "adults" only? Everyone is entitled to their own expression and the internet..

It probably wouldn't make much difference. All the younger ones have to do is change their date of birth and they can still register.
I agree though there are quite a few young ones on there and also a lot of pornographic profiles. Young people shouldnt have access to things like that as filters dont recognise myspace profiles as pornographic.

Oh yeah, that would be good, but then again lots of people lie about their age... some will adjust their age to fit the requirement.

No I don't think that will be a good idea..either way teenagers will find a way to cheet at the information....myspace is a web site that if you know how to be cautious, is fun...don't give to much information about yourself...and if you have children that visit the site...make sure you supervise them...

They could raise it to 100 and people would still get on there. People lie a lot.
