As an Englishman, I found it odd that their seems to be an attitude amongst some Scots that the English are the root of all evil, that they are stealing fmro the scots and that they could do alot better if they were simply cut off.

How silly. Scotland receives far more from the English taxpayer than any other region, it its dependent on the English nation for its livelihood. Certianly most English do not think of Scotland in the smae way - it does not even register. Perhaps an unfortunate mentality of always receiving and expecting more has become ingrained, rather than becoming more independent and self sufficient.

As "a truly free and independent nation" Scotland would be financially troubled as I assume you would want some form of Police, Military, Health Service, etc., all of which are currently paid for, or subsidised by, the rest of the United Kingdom.

You would also be in an interesting economic position, as currently you do not produce enough goods to be financially self-sufficient.

Finally, no nation is "truly free and independent"; we all live in an inter-dependent world where we rely on others in many different ways - or did you miss the Make Poverty History campaign last year?

Third world country, when was the last time any English forcibly occupied scotland?
The rise of Scottish nationalism coincided with the discovery of oil in the North sea in the 1970's, before that it was a minority lunatic fringe preoccupation.
While the British Empire ruled the waves the Scots were more than happy to act as slave traders and enforcers in remote British Colonies.

Scotland would be about the same although slightly worse off financially....so what's with the freedom anyway, you live in Scotland you get one vote, you live in Wales you get one vote, you live in N.Ireland you get one vote, you live in England you get one vote. The UK is a democracy, we are all free already. Apart from Scotland had it slightly sweeter than England because they have their own Parliament...England doesn't. We are stronger together, show solidarity not hate brother!

Surely if anything Britain should be frighting George Bust to give the Native Americans their land back if you're that concerned about freedom?

They'd be in trouble seeing as England still has to financially subsidise Scotland. And I'm talking as a half Scot LOL

Worse off. The UK government spends more per person in Scotland than anywhere else. If you want your independence you are welcome to it.
