Yes, you do need specific qualifications to become a social worker. You will need a General Social Care Coucil (GSCC) recognised qualification. The website below is quite helpful.

It depends on the state. I was a Social Worker in Ohio with only a bachelor's degree. Most states require a Master's in Social Work. Call the agency you would like to work for or the state you would like to work for.

Yes, you need to have a degree in some type of human services as a basis. If you can obtain an specific social work degree, that would further your chances of getting better employment if that is one of your goals.

You will need a degree in social work, but you should know that males generally get run out of the courses, as they present the idea that only men are abusive, beating and killing women and children. My wife took the courses back in 1994, and found them to be very bias against men. They promote that women only defend themselves from men, not abuse men, and that they only abuse children as a result of the way they were treated by men. Also, women don't sexually abuse children, as children feel more comfortable having sex with a woman, as opposed to being raped by a man. She quit the course after just a few weeks.

At minimum a bachelors of science degree in psychology or sociology, or social work (human services) from a accredited university. then you can get your state certification and can also obtain a masters degree in social work even better.
