What you want to do is start in "Safe Mode," like Chris M suggested. This way, when you do your scans, it will be able to remove everything! You shouldn't have to uninstall unless you have something really nasty! I'll give you a link just in case you need to try some other methods of removal! Once you've updated your security programs, you can boot into safe mode. I would disconnect from the internet as well, while you are doing the cleanup. Good luck!

Rebooting your computer is simply restarting it. Close any open programs, then shutdown completely (not the restart choice) wait a second or two then power the machine on again, and sign in as you normally do. This clears the memory that was used to run the scan. If this fails to remove the viruses try restarting in safe mode and run the scan again. A further more drastic step is to disable system restore because it provides a place for the virus to hide. Use your spybot and a program like adaware as well - you may have other malware that is actually the problem, or providing a source for the virus.
Above all make sure all your housekeeping programs are up to date. The best commercial anti-virus and malware programs in the world are useless if they are using two year old definitions.

A good professional won't be charging anywhere near $500 for a system cleanup or to reformat with your supplied discs.

Hello.
There are two type of programs you mentioned. One is an antivirus. That would be, Norton, MacAfee, AVG, AVAST,... The second would be antispyware programs like Spybot, Adaware, Spyware Guard, Ewido,... There is a difference. First you should never run two or more antivirus programs at one time. Second you should make sure your subscription to your antivirus is current. If it has expired or has not been updated you may as well not have an antivirus program on your computer.
Try running your antivirus program while in Safe Mode. This, in some cases, will allow your antivirus program to run without interference from the virus'.
You should also have a HJT (HighJackThis) log analyzed. Use the following link to have this done. You will have to become a member, but it is free and you will find it very educational.

I have also provided a list of freeware antivirus, antispyware and firewall programs. There are many other programs but lets focus on these for the moment.

I hope this is of some help. Good luck.

WEll, I would use AVG anti-virus and boot into safemode. This will limit the stuff loaded and hopfully get ride of the Virus. there is really no reason you have to format you drive to get ride of a virus. There is always a way to get ride of them. It just take time and a little bit a patience. To get into safe mode while your computer id booting press the F8 key before the Windows screen apears. If done correctly you will see a black screen with a bunch of choice. There will be a choice for safemode. Choose that and then log into windows. Once inside you can run your anti-virus scan and see if that takes car of it. Also i would do a google search on the virus to see if there is a sperate tool that will help delete the virus. Some virus require the use of a sperate tool. Hope this helps

Rebooting just means a restart, i.e. turning the power off and back on again - so I don't think that's exactly what you mean...

To reinstall your machine, salvage the files you need to keep to your thumb drive (and make sure you virus scan them before putting them back on a clean machine!) then use your OS (I'm guessing Windows) discs to reinstall. It's important that you perform a COMPLETE format before installation (if it's Windows, it'll talk you though this on-screen) and not just a quick format - some viruses can still get through a quick format. Then the installation software will hold your hand and guide you through the process in comfort.

it could be the virus already reside in your memory when you restart the computer, you can scan your hardrive from another pc or if you want to restart it, this is the steps:

copy all your files (the files that you want to save) into other device for backup

go to start menu -- run -- type: msconfig
go to startup tab -- disable all -- ok

restart the pc using hard reset (press and hold the power button)

press F8 to go to safe mode

scanned your hard drive and device where you put your files

if both way still doesn't work, i think you need to reformat and reinstall all over again.

I'll do it for $50. First of all, start to load the pics on your thumb drive,.you might need to burn some on CD. Remember to save all your documents.
Some computers don't come with the correct CD's to reinstall windows. So make sure you have all that you need before you start to reinstall windows. Drivers, for all your peripherals. Depending on what system you have, you might be able to reinstall the system by pushing F10 at bootup (Compaq and HP)

I would try AVG Free antivirus version, before trying all of that and ssee if it will get rid of the virus, I have had alot of luck with that. Just do a google search for free avg. or go to http://www.download.com

yes you do it with the cd from the manafacturer
You should have an owners manuel that will tell you what to do.
Call the manafacturer for help.
First though try system restore.
go to start then search type in system restore when you see it click on it and follow instructions this will let you set the computer back to an earlier time if that doesn't work then go to the above suggestion. Good Luck
