It's because most adults now (like 40 years and older) see that as abnormal. It wasn't like that "back in the day".
My dad has always given me a hard time about boyfriends I brought home. I think almost every single one of my boyfriends has some kind of piercing in their face. My fiance had his lips pierced twice when he met my dad. My dad and I discussed this and he said it's just "weird". He said most people with tattoos and piercings seem to be a part of the wrong crowd, doing drugs, crime, in prison, etc. He also said most people with piercings in their face can't have a "real" job, meaning a firefighter, or police officer, or lawyer.
That is just how society is! If you are abnormal in anyway you are just "weird". People are very judgmental, and pre-judge people. Some of the nicest people I have ever met had tons of tattoos and piercings, and they aren't bad or immoral, they wouldn't even hurt a fly! That's just how it is, and really, I don't see it ever changing. Every generation is going to think the next generation is doing something "weird".

It's not that we see you as a "bad person"; just young and immature, and trying to attract attention to yourself and be "unique" in a very shallow and superficial way -- decorating your face with bits of metal, rather than impressing us with the quality of your ideas or what you do to make the world a better place.
Most of us understand -- we were young once, too....and when you're our age, and the young people have lasers shooting out of their heads (or whatever the hip, fashionable trend is 20-30 years from now), you'll probably see those kids a little bit differently...

In our society there are such things as "norms". When a person has been perceived to have broken the norm, society tends to look at them in a different light. Haven't you ever looked at someone because of the difference in their appearence? I know I have, and I have a nose piercing. I still look at the gothics and the strange hair colorings different that I would look at someone who wasn't dressed differently or someone who's hair was all the same color. It's all in the perception. As long as you are comfortable in yourself, to heck with what people look, say, or do.

For the same reason tattoos will never be formal.
It is precieved as a sign of inmaturity in the work place. Think about wearing these decorations on your face when you are over 40....!
