Scientific experiments have shown that if you put too many mice in one box, they start to become upset, anxious, depressed or even violent. It's the same thing in the city. Too crowded, too many people, too much noise, not enough personal space and privacy. People can only deal with it for so long. When I was younger, I loved the excitement of the city, but now I can't get far enough away from it!

I grew up and lived my life in Manhattan. Went to school there, college, parties, work and then it was time for a change of life.
I watched all my friends move - and I stayed. I watch Guillano clean it up, and I didn't have as many homeless people to trip over as I'd walk home.
I'd have taxicab drivers ask me where I was from - because none of them were natives -- and then shrink away when I'd tell them, "here!"
Meanwhile, I live in a town of 12,000 people (as opposed to 8 million). I know my neighbors. I socialize more often. I even have been able to find the time to go to theater and volunteer.
I sleep better at night. There are no police cars, fire trucks, ambulances or drunks singing in the street. I am lullabyed by crickets as I close my eyes. I wake up to green grass, blue skies and egrets and herons in my backyard.
It's a different life. I guess I got tired. I was always on deadline and always with axes over my head if I missed one.
By the way, I went back for a wake 2 years ago. The streets seemed a little bit dirtier than I remembered. The yuppies have taking over all the stores. There wasn't a regular corner bar anymore - but a Starbucks... and everyone walking around the village -- seemed so young. I'm not that old, but I was starting to feel like a fossil.
It did make me realize, with the dirt and the noise I couldn't live there anymore. But NY is a great city - it offers so much and it will always be my hometown.
I just had to add one little thing - there are plenty of seniors in NYC. It is one place where you don't need a car to get around, and therefore you can take care of yourself a lot longer than you could in a rural area where you would be dependent on someone driving you around. (Or be one of those little old ladies and men - under the steering wheel causing accidents...)

It depends on what type of person you are that will determine whether or not you like the city. For me, I hate the city. I was born and raised in the country and I love the peace and the quiet. I don't have to deal with the traffic, I am close to people, but not too close, people seem more relaxed and nicer, everything seems to go at its own pace, the air is fresh (most of the time), you can actually see the stars and enjoy the natural phenomenons of life, you learn to appreciate the small things, everyone seems very community orientated. I dont mean to slam the city people but everything seems so rushed and based on everyone else, the city is too big.

The big city has lots of positive points like you can get almost anything you want and don't have to go to another place to get it. But why stay in the city where there are pollution, crime, noise, disturbance and all that stuff when you can stay like 10miles out of town where it's peacefull and not so far away from everything else

Too many people, which includes the way people behave. The behavior of many people is going to give the impression that there is a lot of bad behavior, because statistically there is a lot more bad behavior. This also includes bad manners, that can escalate into people only seeing the negative aspects of a city, that leads to them concluding that many people leads to stress and they want to flee. You are more likely to behave kindly with people who you are familar with (small town) than people who you bump into in a large city.

When you get older, other poeple music booming through walls, blasting out of windows all summer long if they are told about it all you get is i got to play my music (damn everybody else as long as they are happy) years ago it was much more peaceful, we played football out on the street all day and hardly ever had to stop to let a car go by, everyone new all their neighbours the good and the not so good. The pressure did not seem to be so stressful as it is today.
