Both parties were about to sign a pact, what happened. ? Why did Vajpayee not assert himself and lose his place in history.

This person was not Vajpayee but someone from his ministry. We all know the drama that surrounded the whole summit and some of the leaders had egg on their faces after a couple of flip flops.

A summit is an international political event where the eyes of the world are watching the goverments' maturity levels and purposeful way forward in discussing bilateral issues. There is protocol to be followed and that is essential to say the least. Unless all these facets are not communicated effectively we cannot command much respect in the world community as a country.

Well everybody in Media speculations were pointing towards L K Advani. Even Musharaf hinted tha it was because someone in Home Ministery i.e. Advani.

Actually what happened was Vajpayee and Advani realised late that they would tend to lose if they agree to sign the pact. They are strong, how can they agree terms set by Pakistan. That is why Vajpayee backtracked at the last moment.

According to Musharaff, Vajpayee was the reason for the Agra failure & accordin to Vajpayee, Musharaff was the reason for the failure. So, you decide which one to believe.

What is the use of pacts when there is no consensus and commitment?. It doesn't make any difference.
