Easy:

oov = xxx
vvvoo = xxxxxx

The change from the first equation to the second is 2 v's on the left adds 3 extra x es on the right.

From the first equation we know that oov = xxx and from the above statement we realize that 2 v's are 3 x's therefore 4 v's add 6 x's. =>

vv vv voo = xxx xxx xxxxxx (I wrote it this way so it's more understandable)

or

vvvvvoo = xxxxxxxxxxxx So the answer is 12 X's.

So x x x = o o v
and v v v o o = x x x x x x

Subtract the first line from the second line, so you take three x's off the right side, and take two o's and a v off the left side.
So you are left with:
v v = x x x x

Since we want to make v v v v v o o we can break this up into
v v + v v + v o o = x x x x + x x x x + x x x

So now we know that it takes 11 x's to make equal v v v v v o o.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.
