You need to write your first one yourself. Then I would suggest find a resume writer and get a critique. If you agree with the suggestions, you may want to have him/her rewrite it. After that, depends on the job, you may need to modify your resume, which you can do yourself. Before you spend money on pro, you can also see if you are getting any response to your resume. If you are, maybe it's okay as it is.

Do it yourself!!! What "pro" knows more about you than you know about yourself? If you have to feed someone the information that will get an impressive resume written, then you already have the answers. Just plug them into your own form. Your resume is a sale flyer and you are the product. What can you say about yourself that will get results??? That's all a pro wants out of you is what you've done to benefit your employers. Turn the features into benefits. Employers hire to either increase income, reduce expenses or provide peace of mind. How does you past fit those needs of the employer???

Do it yourself but make sure you get some friends or other job experienced people to read it for you even just for grammar or spelling mistakes. Look around online for free resume advice from the career websites like yahoojobs or careerbuilder. I know it may sound time consuming and intimidating right now you have to remember that it is an investment in your future and once you get your resume in a good format once it will be very easy to make minor updates to it as you move through life.

it all depends on how much you already know about resume writing skills. i would say do both i.e. write first yourself -- all you know about yourself, skills, education, job experience etc. then go to a professional and he/she will do the rest. It is a simple process.
