It makes sense to me that we all came from the same root and adapted to the different climates and environments as man spread out through the world. If the fossil experts can trace our lineage back into the distant past, as a layman, i'll believe in the perponderance of the evidence that they produce.

While the book of genesis does not list the names of Adam and Eve's daughters you can figure that Cain and Seth (Abel died without children) married their sisters. This would not have been a problem as solar radiation did not have much of an effect and would not have caused inbreeding. I know there are other arguments from a biblical view but I do not recall what they are. From a secular standpoint I would say that the listings in genesis of Noah's descendants would explain the nations and tribes. I consider myself to be a pagan/buddhist and although there is much in evolution that makes sense I have alot of trouble believing that we evolved from "lucy" (I can never spell that species name correctly) While there are some similarities between humans and apes there are in my opinion too many differences to justify claims that we evolved from the same anscestor. Since most scientists today feel that Homo erectus and Homo sapian could have been the same species I would say that you probably have some balance of truth in both religion and science. Since most pantheistic religions point to some sort of spiritual influence in the world it would not surprise me that the spirits which influence this world influenced evolution to produce life as it existed in the begining. Since most anthropologist agree that fire was given to early man by an outside force (lightning, lava ect.) I would say that it could be argued that the spiritual forces gave man fire in hopes of having some sort of communication with this world.

well, if you believe in the bible, it came about as the families of Adam & eve began to reproduce. as more people were produced, more conflict came about, which most likely resulted in people migrating to new areas. also, when God stopped the people from building the tower of babblion (sorry about the poor spelling on that), he had them start speaking a lot of different languages, so then that helped scatter people out even more. as for skin color, i would say that in either case, the people adapted to the weather and amount of sun surrouding them.

When groups of people are separate for any length of time, they start to look different, partly because of genetic drift and partly in response to their particular environment.
Given enough time, if travel ease continues to increase, in a couple of thousand years, everyone with be a brunette with brown skin.
