the most common hazard is R.S.I. (Repetitive Strain Injury), which you can partly avoid by using the fast-keys instead of the mouse whenever possible and by taking enough breaks and doing excercises.
As for damage to the computer, you've named 2 of the biggest already. Dust, however, can also cause many malfunctions, so keep an eye on that - a dust-clogged fan doesn't cool the processor anymore, for instance.

As Walter said, RSI is one of your main problems, i never thought it would affect me but pushing a mouse all day long without moving away from your workstation can have a cumulative effect. Started off as just the odd twinge here and there but got progressively worse to the point where i had symptoms similar to arthritis. Best way i found to combat it was making sure that i took regular breaks and taking exercise.

As a deskside support tech, I found the most common problem was user confidence, followed by missing drivers (caused by users not understanding what they were deleting), power (caused by users unplugging cables cause they wanted a fan or heater on) and monitors not being switched on (guess who I'm blaming for that one?).

Users are the most common problems with computers. Until a telepathy chip is developed where the computer can read your mind and do what you want this will always be a problem.

Using the internet.
Or more specifically, getting caught browsing unsavoury sites. It'll lose you your job, marriage and probably all your money as well, after that long lost uncle from Nigeria gets hold of your account details.

the most dangerous thing that can happen to a computer is when it's dropped. It bl***y hurts. Trick is not to do this by asking someone else to move it for you.
