" yes " being this way over a number of years will end with you having no friends at all. Even worse you will end up with a reputation that people will not even come near you. Honesty is the best policy........

where pragmatism gives you a moral answer, you don't need to think too hard about the morals.

It's daft to be sly.

People aren't stupid; you will be rumbled and you'll be on your own. It's a whole lot more sensible to be true to your beliefs and say what you mean.

In commerce, everyone is a bit sly, but the less the slyness the greater the chance of selling to someone a second time.

Plants and animals have various methods of getting what they want. It is not uncommon that "slyness" is one of the methods. Notice the use of nectars, bright colours, camouflage etc in both the plant and animal kingdom. Slyness is quite common. Some teachings make you feel "morally" guilty. This just "disadvantages" you. "All is fair in love and war".

"Sly" is, by definition, a negative characteristic; so of course it is wrong to be that way.

"Cunning" or "crafty" are less pejorative; a "cunning plan", for instance is not necesarily nefarious; a "sly plan" is.
