OK I'm at Uni in the UK, hoping to become involved in custom bike/car builds (ie, custom paintjobs), was told best way to get experience was to get a few hours a week in a tattoo parlour. I've found one near me, a big guy that works on his own out of a little place on the High Street, but was wondering if it was the 'done' thing to ask for unpaid experience in a tattoo parlour?

Of course I wouldn't want paying, and I'd be happy to just answer the phone/ make tea etc etc.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Can't hurt to ask, the worst that can happen is that he will say no, and there's bound to be other places in your town

you could ask but i'm sure he's not going to let you near anybody to practice. plus getting a tattoo is a very personable and private thing nobody is going to like another person apart from the tatooist staring over at them. buy a shell of an old car from a junk yard and practice on that.

Hi, here's an idea, if you want to get involved in custom bike building etc, why don't you go to a custom bike builder and ask if you can work for them for free?

Your best bet is to ask just for work experience explain what you would like to do. If he say's no look on the net under paint shops for cars. Good luck. and no don't ask him for a freeby it hurts when you hit the floor after being hit for being cheeky.

its strange that you are going for a work expereance at a tattooist for bike and car builds do you not think it would be best to go to a machanic but if its thr art side then try an grapics art corace and do the tattooist

You'd be the apprentice then! No, it's not unheard of! He may offer you a small wage, so I wouldn't dive in there stating that you don't want paying!

ASK HIM!!! I'm sure if you explain your situation, he would be delighted to be your mentor!
