I live in a fairly big metropolitan area and I can drive or take public transportation. Additionally when I drive, I have several routes I can take. So here's the question:

When driving during your commute would you rather ease along highway traffic going very slowly bumper-to-bumper (although a direct route) OR cut through the city, slightly longer in terms of miles and still traffic filled but at least moving continuosly.

There is only 17,000 people in our whole county. Maybe 5 traffic lights. The county seat only has 2 traffic lights.
There is only one stop sign between our home and my work. If there is one person in front of me I get anxious.
When I did live in the city though I always took back routes and side streets to get around stopped traffic. I don't like sitting in traffic.

Well I too live in a large metro area, (Houston) and I have public transportation option, however I like to be the one in control and drive. I have many many options to get to work and I just hate the highway route. It is too slow and way to many wrecks happen, so I always take the bit longer route, cut through and and red lights however I make it too work pretty quickly when I do it this way. So too answer, I take the cut through!

Probably highway traffic, depending where you work. I do prefer shortcuts though.

I would rather: Sleep late and welsh off of my relations. Unfortunately, that hasn't worked out so far.
