The last I heard (27.09.06) was that as the parachute opened a rear tyre burst dragging the car to one side, this is still unconfirmed. On a happier note Richard Hammond has now left the Leeds hospital he was in (28.09.06), apparently he will be in a hospital nearer his family. So thankfully he is well enough to be moved and his recovery is progressing well. Best wishes "hamster" keep on fighting! Hope to see you back on our screens soon mate.

I reckon Jeremy Clarkson secretly cut the brakes or something before filming started, who knows maybe Richard just brought an Aston Martin DB9 and Jeremy got jealous, and therefore decided to oust him because to sack him from Top Gear would be too obvious. I love them both anyway!

He tried to break the british landspeed record and ended up with a burst rear tyres. This caused the car to skid and sommersolt and he ended up in the ICU of Leeds General Infirmary

Richard has shown himself to be pretty fearless and it must have been an awesome experience, so I can understand why he would want to do it.

Shame about the blow-out.

I really wish him well and a speedy recovery & for him to talk us through it on Top Gear soon.

It said in the paper today it might take months of investigation to find out.
Anyway, I'm glad he's on the mend.

From the small amount of evidence iv'e seen so far, i would say it was a traction problem or a tyre issue (blow out)
