ow come so many people out there don't like to disclose how much they make at their job. It seems like only people living on almost nothing are willing to tell you. I have tried asking people in certain careers how much they make to determine if I want to pursue that career and I will alway be turned away.

How much do you make if you are willing to answer and type of job?

Yea people do get offended. It is a bit personal. I never ask. I'd rather go on salary.com and figure out the pay range by job and state. I make $60K as an Underwriter for an Insurance Company. And that's without a college degree. That is pretty good and I'm only 25. Of course, I have been in insurance however for about 6 years so it goes along with the experience you have. Hopefully next year its even more, or I'll keep moving for the money!

You are right about the working poor, willing to disclose their income. I guess the "well off", are feeling a bit guilty about how much they earn in comparison. I earn under $7.00 an hour as a hotel maid. I work very hard and not only do I earn less than $200.00 a week, I get treated like a second class citizen. It is a thankless job, yet a necessary one. This is why we all encourage our children to do well in school, and continue on with their educations.

I am an independant computer consultant specilizing in software packaging.

I make between $75,0000 and $90,0000/year depending on how many days a year I decide to work.

I spend most of my time living out of hotels so I try to take 2-3 months out of the year off to spend extra time with my family.

Oh, and as to the person above who said those who are not broke feel guilty...nope.

Hello,

That is a good question. The answer is because so many people consider it private personal information.

Instead of asking people directly, I recommend that you use the internet to get that information. Try this site below. It is quite informative.

Good luck

Three things you just don't talk about based on their personal nature:

1. Religion
2. Politics
3. How much you make.
