Hello

I was in Cuba last Christmas and New Years. I had a fantastic time trekking through the mountains for a Cancer Charity. On New Years we partied hard in Havana. Best to get the services of a local guide. That way you can go to really cool places which are off the beaten track - and less packed with tourists!

Hope you have a great time!

New Year's Day is the Cuban National Day and people party for days on end. It is also notoriously difficult to get a taxi on New Year's Eve, particularly if it rains. So where you go will depend on where you are based, if you have any sense. Presumably you are going to Havana? If so, look around to see what's going and book well in advance. We found a small restaurant right in the centre which was offering a new year party for only $16 dollars ahead and I wish that I could remember its name, as the live music was unbeatable and people were dancing in the street outside to its rhythm. One girl spent the whole evening pleading with the doorman to be allowed in! If you spot a small restaurant carrying a sign advertising its delights in terms of a bargain price, then that's probably our wonderful place. The more up-market places ask ridiculous prices for New Year's Eve and quite honestly are not value for money.

Cuba is one of the very best places to be for New Year's Eve. Enjoy! And remember to greet everyone you meet with the word "Felicidades!" to congratulate them on this their big, big celebration!

We were in Cayo Coco in April and though it is absolutely beautiful I wouldn't recommend it as the party spot of Cuba, Varadero and Havana are your best bets, both have plenty of bars with live music and salsa dancing which is fantastic and is the best party music going, there are lots of restaurants in both Havana and Varadero too, at New Year you are bound to find a party anywhere in Cuba as it is there national holiday and its one big party, basically Cuba is a party all the time and the people are just beautiful and fantastically friendly, you will have a ball.
