Hi, I said a few words of encouragement to a guy. I wonder if I over did it because his reaction was to thank me for my kindness. I told him he was attractive, although he apparently doesn't think so. I was NOT being kind to him. I was telling the truth, but why did he react in that way? I'm confused. What do you think of such a reaction? Do you think he was being shy about my compliment? Thanks a lot for sharing.

He's simply shy; he's not used to being complimented; and probably haven't had a girlfriend before. Tease him, in a sense that you being kind to him. You just might convince him to come out of his shell. Once you prove to yourself that he finally emerged from his shell, cease from complimenting him... otherwise he'll become over confident of himself and that will be very bad lol.

This guy may have low self esteem and if so then all comments of postive will be avoided so to say with him. He might have been put down by his parents/guardians growing up or teased by his peers in school. Try to gradually help him improve his self esteem but dont over whelm him at once.

He was possibly just a little shocked that somebody gave him a compliment but there could also be the fact that he also liked you and was really flattered that somebody who he liked and thought was attractive responded to him the way you did.

Well lets see, sometimes its like this, a guy is a hunter and the girl is the prey, the hunter loves the thrill of the chase and loves the reputation when catching the prey. So if you say to a guy you like him, some guys will avoid you like SARS, they want the thrill and the reputation. Hope this helps^^. Note: not all guys are like this.

Maybe he's just insecure and lack self confidence.
Or he's just an untrusting person that doesn't take compliments seriously.

Saying thanks is a way to show appreciation. Give him some time to digest your compliment.

If he doesn't avoid you. You know he has taken it well.
