I stop saying good afternoon around 4. I'll start saying good evening around 6. I just keep quiet between 4 and 6.

It's when you have popped home for a quickie at lunch time and it's been so good that you just keep going and forget to go back to work, that's when a good afternoon turns into a good night.

5pm or 6pm. After working hour, just greet people Good Evening, that's a pretty fun way to draw a line.
