First it was high schools and then there was one at a college in Canada. I think its only getting worse. I want to know your thoughts, please I don't think I'm alone but I'd like to know. Thanks!

I'm only 19, 20 very soon but I digress. WHen I plan to have kids (way down the line) Am I going to be able to send him or her to school to learn safetly? I don't want to home school because they won't have the socializing they need. I look at how the world is today and it scares me. It's not going to get better.

I have more questions as well. Why is it always surburban schools? Why are they always white kids?
My theory is that there are several root causes.
1.) Violent video games. Who has the money for these PSP2s and all the first person shooting games? Rich kids in the suburbs.
2.) The parental pressure to do good in school. If kids fail in school so much is forced upon then by parents, but if the do get all As, the other kids tease them for being nerds.
3.) The bully factor. The kids that do this all seem to be the kids the jocks stuffed in lockers at school. Team that up with the violent video games where the smallest kid can kill hundreds or bad monsters and they piece the 2 together as a way to get back at their tormenors.
4.) Internet webpages. This allows kids that have all these feeling to get support from others kids that are of the same thinking. This gives them support in their wild fantasies for revenge that is more powerful than the parents teachings.
5.) parental indifference. So many parents of these kids say the never knew the kids where visiting these websites, playing these games or making bombs in their rooms because they were respecting their privacy. BS, take control of what your kids are doing and bust down the doors. Know what they are thinking and doing.
Sorry, I will now get off my soapbox.

Child sevices have been cut so much. It does absolutely no good to call about children who live in violent drug houses. Are you aware of that? We have some kids growing up with their parents dealing drugs and talking about guns and violence - real time real life. Living with violence and dealers in and out, and pit bulls. Calling for help about child abuse - especially if they are in danger from emotionally neglect and abuse is a joke, there aren't even any guide lines. How about that. From what I see these parents doing, nothing would supprise me. I know grade school kids who say their Dad is going to get them a gun. And Dad doesn't even dispute this. I mean a real gun. The jails have revolving doors, the justice system is a joke as well. Where do our tax dollars go? Do you think the rich politicians care? They make the cuts to the child care budgets. Drugs, raves, and gangser rappers is what these kids know. It's sad when others see it coming and act all they can, and get now where. If a kid is fed, and not beat, they close the case. Dealers don't even go to prison time and time again, over and over. I've heard this from many other caring family members in the same situations. MI. If you were a kid in this situation, would you talk to a stranger, and be removed from the only parents you know, to go who knows where, or deal with the wrath from Dad? Not to mention you put your life on the line, to get involved in the first place.

I don't understand your comment, "why don't the parents see this coming" From the news accounts that I seen RE: Colorado, it was a older male, they haven't released his motives if they are known. This is truly a travesty, and all of us all the world need to keep these fellow human beings in prayer, the family who lost their daughter due to the sense less acts of a mad man, all of the children (young adults, teachers) who experienced this act of terror. If you feel touched by this which I am sure most of us who see this are, just imagine the feelings of those who experienced it. May God give them all peace and help them to recover from this. I feel the obviously they learned something from Columbine, most were able to get out. This is very sad to say but it could have been so much worse. Incidents like this have made our schools seem more like prisons, many schools are under locked doors during school hours, in my community at the Jr high and high school students are not able to carry book-bags due to the violence of today, some schools have metal detectors. God have mercy on us all. You are not alone on this, I believe many people this morning have this on their minds and are amazed with the evil in this world.

You're not alone, in fact thats what was being talked about at wok today. I'm only 25, but it seems like kids today (and some adults too) don't have any respect. If I talked to my parents like the kids I see in my shop everyday I would've been in deep trouble! I think the world is lacking an authority and respect for others that is the basis of a humane and sane society.
We all just need to sit down, have a cup of tea and relax.

It seems to me that it is getting worse. In this case, the bad thing is that they don't know the identity of the gunman. This school is in a rural area so it isn't just happening in the city.
In our schools in Louisiana, for the past couple of weeks there have been numerous reports of kids bringing guns to school at areas all over the state. I can not for the life of me understand what these kids are thinking......that their troubles will all be taken care of by shooting to get their way? Yes, I am disgusted just like you. In alot of schools they have deputies at the schools here and detecting devices but nothing seems to be working, they are getting more bold!

i would agree with you soooo much. its sad how some high/middle schools dont even allow kids backpacks because of shootings. why doesnt anybody see this coming and try to get the poor kid some help, minor things could have stopped these shootings from happening, like some therapy, maybe friends. i think its scary that we are having killers so young.

Children do not have parental guidance any more; this results in two things:
first - there is no-one to tell them what is right and what is wrong
second - TV is their baby sitter... A child is not able to understand the difference between the faulse killing on the TV and the real killing in school.
Once there is a gun in the house -and as far as I have seen on the movies, there is a gun in every house- they "play" the same way they have seen on the TV...
Isn't it tragic?

This last school shooting was done by an adult, not a kid.
But regardless, you're correct in asking what's wrong with people. The world is a very scary place.

I think you are absolutely correct - I think it's a parenting issue and the actions of these kids should be the responsibility of the parents. perhaps laws that make the adult in this equation responsible will spark parents to take action.
