Former leader of Iran. Deposed in 1953 after seizing (nationalizing) people's assets - apparently there was CIA involvement. I don't know details.

International politics is a messy business. The US allied itself with one of the greatest mass murderers in history - Stalin - to fight another one, Hitler.

As I said, a messy business. Seems like there's little room for idealism when one is defending his nation's protection, or survival.

PS I was NOT comparing them! Please read more carefully.

Do I get the ten points? :)

OK Like i did not learn this until 1979 when the shah was over thrown, so cut some of these people some slack. Remember our government lies to us.
Mr. Mossadeq was prime minister of Iran after WWII. he was v. popular with the Iranian people because he wanted an Iran free of foreign rulers and he wanted the oil resources of Iran to benefit the people of Iran. The British at the time were sopping up most of the oil. They convinced the CIA that Mossadeq was a Communist. This was crazy. The last thing on earth he wanted was to get rid of the British only to have the Russians take over. The CIA helped the Shah, Mohammed Reza Pahlevi,( the one who was kicked out in1979) have a coup and take his crown back thus ruining any chance for democracy in Iran, oh up to now and the foreseeable future.
The joke was on the British and the Americans because they had to spend so much money keeping the Shah in bejeweled pantaloons and dealing with the blow back from this (including the Iraq war and Iran's wanting a nuclear bomb. If we'd just let Mossadeq keep his damn oil Iraq might be peace full and democratic today.

I believe he was prime minister of Iran in the 1950's. He wanted to make reforms in a somewhat socialist direction. The U.S. overthrew him for fear of the country turning to communism and allying with the Soviet Union.
