I think the skull has been in the desert sun for a lot of years. It looks like "toast" colour. I would like to make it white but i dont want to use paint. Should i use bleach? for how long?
Thanks

If you want it to be actually white, I'd suggest using an enzyme bleach/detergent to remove the proteins and such that are making it yellow. A good one is BIZ. Cook it for 4-5 hours (simmer) in 1/2 cup per gallon of water. Rinse thoroughly and repeat with fresh water.

Soaking in bleach (10:1 with water) or a 10% hydrogen peroxide will also work, but these are less environmentally friendly.

Wedding Colour Issue Brown&Yellow (Sunflowers) or Black/White/Lavender? I have been planning my wedding to be held October 2009 for about a month now.I though I was set on my colours/theme and had tons of ideas I was going to use sunflowers with a chocolate and yellow country rustic theme. I have even planted my own sunflowers to see what kind I might like to use. I was going to use terra cotta pots tied with some hemp and a bow and personalized sunflower seed packets as favors Now my feiance (who has decided he dosen't want to provide much input) has told me that he thinks lavender is the best for a wedding colour, and I would like to incorporate his ideas into the wedding, naturally. So now I have to make a decision, the origional borwn/yellow or the new idea of black/white/lavender (which would be more sophisticated and modern than the country/rustic idea.) does anybody have some pictures/ideas/opinions for either to help in this decision???

Bleaching is the only solution but I'm afraid that it won't whiten the skull as much as you want...
Why don't you ask at Museum of Physical History or Zoo?

Try to wash it with formic acid, but wear protection glasses and gloves! I've no guess about the success, but I know, that huntsmen use this method to prepare the skulls of their bag! After washing the skull with the acid it's necessary to neutralize it with plenty amounts of water and then use a hair dryer!
