I have to pull the fuse or the lights stay on and pull the battery down - I've even had to get a jump to get it started. I'm not sure what to check. I'm sure that it is electrical and I've checked the wiring in the tail lights themselves. I can't afford to take it to a shop to have the wiring checked - I'm on disability and this is my only transportation. Please help!!

Check the brake light switch it may have failed or it may be stuck in the closed contact position due to it being lose. Start your van, look at the tail lights and it they are on the switch is in the closed contact position. See if you can reach it yourself and see if it's lose and not contacting the brake pedal. If it is not simply depress the switch and have someone check if the lights go off, if they do adjust the switch, tighten and you're on your way with no money lost. If nothing worked replace the switch and follow the same procedure as outlined before.

It would seem that your brake light switch located under the dash at the top of the brake pedal arm has failed. It is keeping the tail lights on all the time. This is assuming that it is tail lights only. If all the lights are affected then you will have to change the light switch in the dash board.

Two reasons! Either you have a short that is feeding the circuit or the switch for the pedal is not properly adjusted. Check both!

Work the brake pedal repeatedly.Sometimes you get gunk in the contact switch. If that doesn't work, you need to replace the switch.

I believe your brake light switch is stuck at the brake pedal
