Military training isn't as hard as you would think. There is a set course made for each branch and what is required in it. The best evaluation for what you are looking at is by asking the recruiter what is the base minimum and maximum that they require and expect to be able to do that nearly every day while you serve. I recently joined myself at the age of 30 and can tell you I made it through. The biggest thing in this........ be determined and you will make it.

The training (boot camp) in all the forces is very tough, both physically and mentally. The drill sargents direct the training in this way for several reasons, a. To make the soldier the best, most fit physically he can be, and b. To push the soldier to see if that soldier can weather out any and all situations they may be faced with. There is another thing that happens too...the fellow soldiers tend to 'bond' and work together as a team. My son graduated from boot camp in 2005...the night before graduation he got up at 2:30am to 'run' with a fellow soldier who still hadn't made the required miles/timing. The group of fellows all worked together, and I can see it to this day...

dont be a BitC# !!! If you are in shape you should be fine. if you want hard training and honor join the marines. if you want well funded good living conditions join the air force. if you want schools (jump-sear-ranger-dive inc)join the army. note all DOD schools can be attended by all branches but funding is limited. so your chances of going to those schools in the Marines even if you are a recon marine are hard. if you want the best of both worlds become an air force combat controller or a PJ. i was in the marines and i have worked with all branches. the CC'S and the PJ's have it best better then the seals!

It's not the physical requirements that get you, take it from a guy who entered out of shape. What gets you most is the mental requirements. You have to have a high tolerance for bull**** and you have to be ready to take a lot of abuse, some from your peers, some from your trainers, and a lot from yourself.
As for specific workouts, check this book out. It'll give you solid, accurate info.

The Marines will kick your butt. Otherwise you will get worked, but not to excess. The exceptions are if you go into some form of special forces such as the SEAL's. But that will be your choice once you finish basics.

The Marines would be the toughest.
Any normal person can make it through military training.
Unless you're extremely fat and totally out of shape you'll make it just fine.
