Computer monitors, your laptop, even HDTV's come in plastic screens, and NOT glass screen like the old fassion. Why are they plastic? Or is it just business, that it meant to be even more fragile, you will have to keep buying when the pixels die. Samething with today's auto makers. Everything car is plastic, the interior, the headlights, the pumber, the fenders. Old days, everything was MEDDLE AND HARD. Just look at any car's headlights or tail lights in teh 80's.

So, who benefits from that?, consumers or producers. If the plastic costs less, it will NOT cost less for the consumers. What you will have is a fragile monitor which will need a replacement sometime. For the producers, they will build it for the less cost, and sell it to you. So, ask yourself, doesn't quality mean something important to you?

It's very easy... Glass costs ten times more then plastic so the costs of manufacturing will be ten times higher, meaning lesser productivity.
Of course there are advantages for it, like weight less, it doesn't brake so easily (but when it comes to cars i really doubt it)...

Plastic weighs less, costs less, and reduce glare and reflection. Not to mention they don't break as easy. That's just a few reasons off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more technical things as well.

Cost, cost, cost...notice how everything in society seems to be buildt to be thrown away and not repaired? Computer monitors are no exception. When was the last time sombody had a computer monitor repaired; a new one costs as low as most of the repair costs.
