They question is not what is eggnog but who is he? or indeed she, I've never been to sure.

Many years ago I was walking in some dark woods I had recently found whilst looking for some slightly lighter woods. I had originally thought the woods to dark but over time I had grown to love them and their eiree shadows but i digress. Whilst walking one evening there was an almighty flash and a streak of fire apeared in the sky followed by an almighty crash and a ball of flame somewhere in the woods.

Being an inquisitive and helpfull person I decided to investigate. after about ten minutes of clambering through the woods treading on gnomes and upsetting elves i finally found the source of all the palava. In the middle of a smouldering circle created in the dark dark wood was a ship. No i dont mean a P&O ferry, It was a space ship, mildly on fire.

Being a responsable person I had my poket fire extinguisher with me and preceded to assist and put out the flames. When the last ember had been stamped out I sat back on a large rock to survey my handy work only to witness in shock as a hatch on the ship opened and out stepped a small round gentleman (well im assuming he is a he) wearing a pin stripe suit.

This character walked over to me and shock my hand. "good evening my man, thank you very much for your assistance with my ship. had a bit of a prang there". I was a little shocked but he seemed nice enough "my names time crawler" I said "whats yours?". "eggnog my dear fellow" he replyed. "now if you'll excuse me I have an apointment".

With that he vanished into the night and i never saw him again. So you see eggnog maybe a weird drink drunk by americans but he's also my friend and maybe oneday we shall meet again and enjoy a cigar or two as we chat about old times.

4 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
1 pint whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
3 ounces bourbon
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
4 egg whites*

In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Add the milk, cream, bourbon and nutmeg and stir to combine.
Place the egg whites in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat to soft peaks. With the mixer still running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
Whisk the egg whites into the mixture. Chill and serve.

Cook's Note: For cooked eggnog, follow procedure below.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Set aside.

In a medium saucepan, over high heat, combine the milk, heavy cream and nutmeg and bring just to a boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and gradually temper the hot mixture into the egg and sugar mixture. Then return everything to the pot and cook until the mixture reaches 160 degrees F. Remove from the heat, stir in the bourbon, pour into a medium mixing bowl, and set in the refrigerator to chill.

In a medium mixing bowl, beat the egg whites to soft peaks. With the mixer running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Whisk the egg whites into the chilled mixture.
