I am a 20 year old female, so here is my problem hopefully someone can give me some advice...
Basically i've messed up my whole sleeping schedule. I sleep during the day and stay awake during the night.. As in from 5 PM till 7 AM I am awake and the rest of the hours I am sleeping... Ive tryed EVERYTHING to try and make it normal again but nothing has worked, I even tryed Ambien, and if you know what that is than you know how well it works and it didnt do much for me besides knock me out for an hour and a half and I took two. So please, if anyone has any advice out there or you need more information to be able to answer my question better let me know... Thank you for everyones time.

What you need to do if force yourself not to go to sleep at 7am. Stay awake until around 10pm the following day. You should be tired enough to fall asleep, but probably won't stay asleep for long. If you wake up at 2am, stay up. Don't go to sleep again until 10pm the following night. Do this over and over again... going to bed at 10pm and staying up if you wake up in the middle of the night. Then going to bed at 10pm. It may take a couple of weeks, but eventually you'll get used to going to bed at 10pm and finding you stay asleep longer and longer. I worked a 7pm-7am shift for many years and got very used to staying awake all night. i did the pills, teas, etc., etc. This was the only thing that worked to get me back on a regular sleep schedule. Don't drink any caffine or take anything to help you stay up after 12 noon. When you already have the urge to be up at night, things like that only make it harder to fall asleep when you want to.

Fix it slowly. Stay up a little later every night. Don't lay down until 8 or 9 this morning, you should sleep later tonight. Keep doing this until you are back on track. You may not sleep later the first few times, but your body will eventually start sleeping at different times.

I had hypnotherapy for something else but really remember my hynotherapist saying that if you try to make yourself go to sleep you will stay awake and vice versa. Don't pressure yourself into going to sleep otherwise it won't happen. Also, do you have a lot on your mind when you are trying to sleep. I have had sleep problems in the past and found that self hypnosis/ relaxation tapes are really good they get you to focus your mind so it's not busing around.

Try to fall asleep at night for the shortest time you can. If you can only manage 3 minutes, that's fine. Then jump up out of bed. When you have any form of insomnia, its very bad to stay in bed, staring at the ceiling. Practice this night after night. Tell yourself you are only allowed to sleep 2 to 5 minutes at night. Keep this up for a week to 10 days and then increase the amount very slowly. Sweet dreams.

Your body has a natural rest cycle (circadian) to it. You can't just change it overnight, it has to be gradual. Try sleeping a little bit earlier, maybe an hour earlier every day. Also develop habits or stop habits that promote sleeping and relaxing, such as reading or listening to soft music. Don't watch TV or do things that stimulate too much activity. You want your body to be as relaxed as possible. Another thing is to also to exercise and don't eat too much before going to sleep.

i have the same problem...mine is due to depression...and my husband's sleep schedule which is erratic and hence has disturbed mine...i went for a sleep study and found that i have sleep apnea which has caused a problem with the quality of my sleep...i guess what you need to do is to figure out why your schedule is messed up and try to find a way to remedy it ..my husband used ambien and we had a car accident because of the side effect of his thinking he was awake when he actually wasn't...i would watch out with that stuff....maybe a sleep study could help you figure out what is going on....hope this helps some

A glass of warm milk an hour before bedtime often helps. Other natural remedies can be found in a web search for "natural sleep remedies".

I dont have any medical advice but I would say just starve yourself of sleep at day time, make sure you are out or have music loud or something to keep yourself awake, only allow yourself to go to sleep at normal hours and eventually your body will adjust.
