A lutheran is a Christian! such ignorance! A lutheran was the first protestant branch of christianity. it is very similar to catholicism as Luther was a priest who didn't want to start a new religion but just reform the Church, and for your information Catholicism is Christian as well, for a long time it was the only Christian Church....Lutherism is justy Catholicism without all the bad stuff....a reformed, more for the "people" and uncorrupted Church (well it was in those days but maybe not so anymore). religions like Anglicanism-and its american branch Episcolpalian[excuse my spelling] branched under protestantism later (in the case so King Henry the 8th could get divorces from all his wives, which is not as noble a reason aas why Lutherism began).

A Lutheran is a Christian. Christian Churches sometimes affiliate with one group or another. These are call denominations. It is just like belonging to one kind of club or another. It is a preference in how to practice Christianity.

That is like asking the difference between Catholics and Christians.

The only difference is how one practices their faith. But in general they have faith in the same thing.
