A long time ago all the dogs in the world went to a meeting at the local church but before they could enter the church they were told to leave their arses in the cloak room, all was well until the church caught fire you can imagine there was one mad panic and the dogs grabbed the first **** they came to, of course now you got dogs with the wrong arses. So since then all the dogs check the other dogs **** when they first meet just in case its there **** ... I hope this explains the reason why they sniff each others arses

Dogs have two small scent glands just on the inside of their bums (anal sacs) its how they distinguish familiar dogs or bitches on heat careful not to squeeze them though otherwise you end up smelling the same as they squirt a very smelly liquid at u

My dog does this.
I think its because its a way of socialising with each other, getting to know the smell of the other dog, sort of like a greeting, like saying hello.

Dogs have scent glands around the anus and the ability to identify each other by scent. The dogs you saw were just getting a better whiff of each other's glands, that's all.

Dogs' scent glands are just inside the anus, (anal glands) they secrete when the dog defecates, which is also why dogs will smell each other's poo. It tells them who did the poo, and sniffing each other is a way of meeting and greeting for them.

It's all about dominance. The dog who sniffs first is the dominant dog. Also, this is their way of checking each other out.

They like the smell.
Usually it is to see if the dog is in a good state for reproduction.

when I was growing up my father told us this story
The dogs were having a hell of a party and there testicals kept on getting in the way, so they removed them and hung them on the washline, another pack of dogs arrived and started making trouble, and the dogs just started grabbing testical off the line, and up until today they still smell each other to see if they don't have their testicals.

this is natural canine behavior. an identifaction process that all dogs do. you should not be embaresed by this. it,s as natural for dogs as your shaking hands, kissing or chatting with friends or strangers. dags have very poor vision and rely on their sense of smell many times. this is one of these times
