with windows XP if u have a cd writer drive u can just burn them using the "burn these files to a CD" thing that appears wen u select a group of files

partitioning the hard drive will require u to wipe the whole lot, reformat the disk (s) and dry run windows back onto the system, it is a more fool proof system cos it means no1 can run off wit ur important data without using ur pc, also its harder to destroy the hard drive without meaning to do so, just one scratch can irreprably damage a cd

u will need a boot disk (a 3 1/2 inch floppy usually) which u put in the floppy drive which enters DOS automatically wen the pc reads from it, then wen inside u will have a series of commands that u need to enter
i am unfortunatly unable to help beyond that point cos all i can remember is the formatt command which is

C:/Format C
C:/dir will give the names of every folder on the HDD

it depends on the files ... if it's just your data or files, then burn them on a cd , if they are system files and programs data .. then you need to go to , , .. and then < System Tools> .. and choose .. you will to browse the folders.. and you are then burn the resulting file to the cd
