because it's fun... how fun is it to have a tickle fight or to hear a child laugh as you tickle their tummy. it cheers you up and makes you smile - can there be a better reason?!

I don't think there is much point to actually being ticklish but there is a point to pulling away from an unidentified touch. The tickle response of jumping away and looking to see what touched you could protect a person from poisonous insects or from being eaten by rats.

And for the fun of it is said to be no bone, yet tickles and at the same time help orientation for hand movements. I see no other point in our life to being ticklish. Life is a serious matter, funnily so.
