Do you think someone who is a recovering drug addict will always look like an addict?
Have you ever met one that used drugs heavy and quit, and looks like they've never used?
Do they keep the signs of addiction the rest of their lives?

Mother says people can just look at me and know I'm an addict! Been clean over a year. She says my jewelry, my cloths, my voice, my handwritting is all tell tale signs!
Just want to know if other people think that way too

It takes time, and depending on what drug it may take medical assistance to fix somethings. As for signs, recovereds always can spot other recovereds du to certain postures and looks. Its a hard thing to shake and always stays with you.

I am a recovering drug addict and believe me....i don't look like a drug addict anymore......I remember how i didn't care about myself, my appearance was awful. Maybe your mother has guilt because she should be more supportive. Yes, we were addicts but we are now gratiful recovering addicts. Believe in yourself b/c mother might be more ashamed of your past than you are. Love yourself and we are not burned with a 'scarlet' letter on our foreheads showing the world that we are addicts. As long as you work the program of recovery...you will find freedom.

My stepfather doesn't look like he used and he used very heavily for several years. It took about 15-20 years for the effects of clean living to show. Of course his arms still show where he shot up if you look close.
My ex-husband also looked like he was always clean. He was super into working out so he always looked like if he ever used a drug, it would have been steroids but he was into meth for about 15 or 20 years.

once an addict ...always and addict. once you are clean ..why would you still look like you used? no teeth? scars? everything can be fixed...but you're always an addict .

I used to do drugs, nobody believes that I did, I look Conservative and don't "seem the type".
