Coffee can be healthy. Different brewing techniques and different beans have different results. I have a website I threw together that is in rough form: http://www.quaff.co.za/pages/HealthInfo.htm
Essentially if you drink freshly roasted beans that are hand picked arabica coffee can be very healthy it has more anti-oxidents than green tea, and has been found to reverse the affects on type 2 diabetes and some liver disorders. The longer the beans are left after roasting and the longer they are roasted the worse they are for you. See some pages in the source

there are many stories about how bad coffee is for you. Recent studies have shown that there are some benefits from coffee but it does depend on the way the coffee is brewed. The very finely ground and brewed under pressure kind is not good for anyone. Too much of the actual coffee bean is in the cup and can be a problem if drank too much. The best is regular grind filtered coffee. It does have caffeine and that does make some people hyper. It is no real harm to you though. caffeine is added to many foods as a flavor enhancer. Colas and other drinks use it for that reason. caffeine can be some addictive for people. There are some benefits in coffee and a cup or two a day can be a benefit.
the kinds of coffee people seem to be crazy about these days is the kind you should not drink. espresso and such are very finely ground beans that have been roasted to the point of nearly burnt and brewed with steam under pressure. This forces the oils and even some of the bean into your cup. They are usually very strong so would contain considerable caffeine.
The Mr. Coffee machines and others like it is the best way to make coffee. Do not use the very finely ground and over roasted coffee.

I read recently that coffee drinking can help protect your liver from cirrhosis. A little can help you stay awake and alert, but the effects are different for different people. I drink over one full pot and sometimes two when I get up. I think I have developed a tolerance for it. I'm not jumpy or anything, but I have to use the bathroom frequently. Maybe this helps prevent kidney stones, but I never heard anything about it. I drink about another pot in the evening and have no trouble sleeping, although I rarely sleep more than 4 hours. I have a sleep disorder, not caused or affected by coffee. Coffee drinking can also lessen hunger because of its stimulating effect. I used to skip many meals as long as I had my coffee and smokes.

Many studies have been performed on the relationship between coffee consumption and many medical conditions, ranging from diabetes and cardiovascular disease to cancer and cirrhosis. Studies are contradictory as to whether coffee has any specific health benefits, and results are similarly conflicting with respect to negative effects of coffee consumption. In addition, it is often unclear whether these risks or benefits are linked to caffeine or whether they are to be attributed to other chemical substances found in coffee (and whether decaffeinated coffee carries the same benefits or risks)
One fairly consistent finding has been the reduction of diabetes mellitus type 2 in coffee consumers, an association that cannot be explained by the caffeine content alone and indeed may be stronger in decaffeinated coffee.
Recently, coffee was found to reduce the chances of developing cirrhosis of the liver: the consumption of 1 cup a day was found to reduce the chances by 20%, and 4 cups a day reduced the chances by 80%

i've had coffee every day for years and years and im fit as a fiddle. ive had grandparents that did the same, and lived long lives. its just like everything, take it in moderation. the effects are that it is a diuretic, so it can make you a little dehydrated, the mental effect is that it overstimulates the cardiac muscle, so you have a rush of blood, which is generally felt in your head, giving you a high feeling. off the cuff, i'd say stay under 2 cups a day, and you should be fine, unless you have kidney trouble, then the caffeine should be avoided. and of course avoid the sugar and cream if you are genetically predisposed to becoming diabetic.

Like anything, coffee in moderation is ok, I drink 1 or 2 cups a day, but never drink it at night as it can keep you awake.

The positive EFFECTS, you ask ? They should be evident when that first , hot , aromatic , energising sip goes down your throat first thing in the morning ! The last vestiges of sleep are driven away instantly & completely , and you feel ready for anything !
