Brushing teeth after food gives only a psychological satisfaction unless what you ate gives smell that is not tolerated by yourself or your neighbors.
I would say, it would be better you postponed brushing till sometime before bedtime and just gargle after food (not that very immediately after food, because you salivate still on the last portions of food that went in with the last course and you need to send some saliva down, otherwise your stomach wont get neutralized with saliva leading to gastritis/indigestion) .

When we are awake our teeth gets cleaned automatically on a continuous basis due to salivation and our tongue doing a nice job. Once we are asleep the particles that are stuck between the teeth accumulate bacteria therein including as coat on the tongue overnight either with our mouth closed or open during sleep, increasing the colony of germs in the mouth and gut to billions of populations only until we brush next morning. That is the case if don’t brush your teeth before going to bed. Even if you have brushed before the sleep, it is still imperative for you to brush in the morning after. Suppose you did not brush your teeth first thing in the morning after you woke up, you are likely to eat your own bacteria for breakfast.
The modern day brushes are hardly effective to remove the embedded particles and they do half the job. Use flossing everyday. There is no danger for the teeth to get gaps if you floss in the right way. Twice a day brushing is OK. Beyond that it is OCD.

Yes, as the dentist would tell you to do. It takes about 20 minutes for the food stuck to your teeth to break down and start causing tooth decay. So brush and floss immediately after a meal. "They" are now recommending that if you can"t brush after a meal because you are out in public, to chew diet gum, it supposedly removes some of the food deposits.

Sure, you can brush your teeth at any time of day or night. It may actually be more beneficial to brush shortly after eating as the "leftovers" won't have time to do damage to your teeth.
