Islam mean peace and harmony. Islam was and is still considered the most peace full religion among the others And is the second largest religion in the world. Every religion had people like osama bin laden in them, so does it make them called a violent religion? The pope made a very wrongful remark about The prophet of Islam, whom the Muslims around the world consider the role model for Islam. His remarks were been pretested because he had blamed the religion and its role model as a devil, which led to the violence. And as far is Osama bin laden is concerned, he doesn't follow nor his friend follow the Quran, cause the religion forbids any one, any Muslim to kill or torture an innocent one, that goes for women, children and older people.
But the manics like osama bin laden had created a wrong image for the religion, which is not true!!
Cheers~peace

The violent of the violent is the USA. All is the game of CIA and tis allies. From where this osama has come. All Muslims know that peace is good for the Islam to spread. This valiance is a part to give some breaks to the Islamisation in various parts of the world. This is just to give bad names to Islam and its followers.

muslims of today are ( let's say the majority of them) are from less civilized nations , so they may act in a less civilized way ... but that doesn't prove anything about islam , muslims of today are depressed by the attack they have , and the lost civilization after they were a big empire and a big civilization , at least their borders were respected from other nations ... some of them are radical , some are terrorists or criminals , but that happenes always in defeated nations like the islamic nation nowaday .
as a muslim i'm very sad and completely disagree with the hijacking of any plane or attacking any churich, for any political or religious reason , it is a criminal act from a criminal person , has nothing to do with islam as a religion , i'm telling this and i myself am a religious muslim
Dont take it by countries, or people , because in the midevals , europe was more entolerant than the most islamic extremists of nowadays
e.g: was the crusadors invade palastine for the first time and entered jerusalem for the first time ( the city of peace ) they , by the name of GOD , killed every one alife in the city , even when civilians sheltered in the great musque , crusadors made that musque a lovely big blood bath , where they killed every one alife , years later Saladin entered the same city without killing a soul after it surrendered , and christians lived there after that in peace
e.g 2 : when muslems invade spain , they last there for 800 years , and the christians still live there in peace as christians , nobody was forced to change his religon , but later when qween Ezabella and her huspand took back spain , they evacuate it from every muslim in less that 30 years ( of course by tortue and descrimination - having a koran at home was a crime could be sentenced to death penalty at that time)
does that mean that christianity is a violent religion ? and islam is a peaceful one ? of course not ! so what does that mean ?
that means that the whole thing is a matter of civilizations , the more civilized nations , the more tolerant ones ....
now lets go to the modern days , the west , and now the far east too , is at it's peak of civilization , so it can be tolerant with anything , the muslim world is at it's worst days and laying in the bottom of civilization , that's why many of them cant think descent ... they are to blame others about what they are now , and as for there is no hope for being better , an individual violent terrorist efforts came up to face the world , to say we are the solution , and islam is what we stand for , and it ordered us to do so ...
about countries , countries still tolerant , for example , in Egypt , my country , the biggest billionaire is christian , and the other big ones many of them are christians .... christians work in everything as judges , oficers , minister of commerce is christian, i have christian friends ... etc.
BUT , dont take the action of "some" muslims, or let's say "few" very few muslims as something to see islam from , because it's a matter of periods , that is the period where muslims are at the bottom , so dont excpect much from them , when christians were not so civilized , i told you what they did .... and new thing , when americans got black ppl from africa , where was there tolerance , those blacks had religions at that time , no body respect those religions , some of them were muslims , but they all were forced to convert ( again: does it mean that christianity is bad because what it's countries or followers do , no , but it was a matter of civilization )
so dont blame islam for what a very few muslims at the time do , they are at the bottom now , islam is very far than the actions of what some stupid extremists do , that's all

I found this excellent quote on religioustolerance.org's Islam page yesterday:
"Jim Jones, David Koresh and Meir Kahane do not typify Christianity and Judaism in the eyes of the civilized West, but those same eyes are prone to see Osama bin Laden and Mullah Muhammad Omar as typifying Islam." --Richard Bulliet
There are extremists in every religion, just as there are far, far more people who follow their religion's teachings without the need to express it through violence.
ETA: In answer to your additional details, check the scientific method. One experiment's results are never to be taken as solid proof for anything. Nearly every religion has had, at some time or another, violent acts done in its name. You can't choose one act committed by a relatively small number of people and use it to apply a sweeping generalization to an entire group.

It depends on what you mean by violent. I am sure that there are some children in the world have commited murder but I cannot really say "Children are murderers" as that would be a very inaccurate generaliastion.
In a religion of several hundreds of millions of people there are a few thousand Muslims who are violent but they are not encouraged or endorsed by the rest of their religion.

the number of verses in both the koran and the bible advocating or glorifying violence number in the hundreds, but fortuneately most christians live in societies that won't tolerate mass violence against non-christians, if this were not so then we would have rampant christian terrorism as well.
however one should note that Jesus was a peaceful man, and muhamed was a bloodthirsty mass murderer who was also a thief and a pedophile, not really a good example. This is probably the reason why there are no islamic democracies and never will be. Muslim countries never have and never will tolerate other faiths and that is why islamic terrorism is rampant all over the world. Muslim societies never speak out against terrorism and so there is no real opposition for its continued practice. There is not one single muslim nation on earth, for example, where a muslim can convert to any other religion without being killed or imprisoned, not one. That it why fanatasism is never questioned, who wants to be punished for speaking out?

Islam is a Violent Religion.
Because-
They claim their Prophet was peaceful, (historically it has been proven wrong as Mohmmad captured Mecca and Medina by force and Converted them under the Sword)
that is why radicals existed even before 9/11 everyone Knows that
8 out of 10 Militant Outfits are Muslim and attack on the Grounds of religion like Jaish e Mohmmad, Lashkar e Toiba, Hizbul Mujahidden, Al Queda
Use simple logic Buddha was Known for peace , Have You Heard
one Incident in History where Buddhist armies Converted other People By Force.
And Why Buddhist have no Fundamentalist or Radicals.

No, Islam is not a violent religion.
No, one incident by enraged Muslims does not mean Islam is a violent religion.
It does mean you are woefully ignorant about Islam and too arrogant to learn it either.
Pity.

Do bears crap in the woods?
Just as in the Bible...There is a lot of writing that endorses violence in the Quran, people find justification there in the violent passages for the violence they do in real life.
Excuses excuses...that is all it's about. And then deceit and denials... "You made me do it because you were disrespectful" malarkey... or "those terrorists are not real Muslims" it's mainly all about gagging as many people as possible....that is a violation of human rights if you ask me.
So yes! Islam is a violent religion when it's violent it is a peaceful religion when nobody opposes it or questions it and bows down before it...when anyone does question or ridicule it Muslims lose the plot because they cannot control their temper tantrums, it's disgraceful and violent, criminal terrorism.
