Are you concerned when they become full EU members that the UK will have an influx of immigrants from these countries, as from Poland and the like?

I'm not concerned anymore as nearly 3 years ago I saw it coming and we emigrated to Spain and have a much better way of life, and the Spanish deport illegal immigrants who don't have work permits

It's the idea of our roadways jammed with horses and carts which worries me!

More seriously, even I, as a pro-EU, immigrant-friendly person, have to admit that both Bulgaria and Romania worry me.

I don't think substantial immigration is an option, because Bulgaria is notable for having mafia and other criminal connections, which has seen a lot of contract killings of senior politicians and state officials. Corruption is also a way of life in Bulgaria.

Romania also has a massive HIV problem, which is not the fault of the sufferers, but of the previous communist regime, who imported cheap HIV infected blood supplies without adequate safeguards.

At a practical level, that is potentially crippling to our health service resources.

There are also large numbers of gypsies which even the Romanians and Bulgarians would be glad to get rid of, but I do not know too much about this.

I think this is one area where we need to be re-assured and protected by a re-thinking of official immigration policy, for we need to tread very warily indeed.

These two countries represent a very different immigrant problem to other countries such as Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic; all of which are much more civilised, better educated and well-governed.

That said, I'm sure there are many splendid Bulgarians and Romanians, and the one Romanian gentleman I knew was excellent.

Worrying!

Ha ha ha!!! You see in Cyprus we already have these little countries invading our country for a better life and the men marrying some of them!!! So, 1 answer is, if you want to keep your identity then be warned. Anyway, it's probably a little late for that. Not that there's anything wrong with these nationalities. Just sometimes they come just for the money and that's it. Others are open minded and even learn your language. Another answer is, they can bring certain elements to the EU which other countries don't have. What I would like to see is how 30 odd countries under 1 currency would hold up!!!! How long, if ever, before the Euro collapses?

The thing is, eventually, Bulgarians and Romanians will be allowed to emigrate to Britain like all EU nationals. It's the same thing that happened with Greece, Spain and Portugal in the past.
(Greece joined the EU in 1981, but Greek nationals were not allowed to work in Britain until 1988). So it's like a transition period of a few years.

What Andy says is the stated position of the UK Government though I am not convinced that they will stick to it. There will be arguments about discriminating against Romania and Bulgaria and some of the Romanian politicians are already calling "foul".

No, because this time the UK will institute the migration controls that it, Ireland and Sweden alone did not do for the 10 new Member States.

Romanians and Bulgarians will not be entitled to work except under special rules. Or so they say now.

people have to stop blaming the migrants, put the blame where it should lie with the employers and business owners. if i was offered a job in the states paying 10 times what i could make here i would'nt take it. i love my home country too much to leave. but i would'nt blame others for doing it. migrants deserve the going rate for doing the same job as a local. if business owners think so little of the locals and want to hire only migrants then they should be charged a higher rate of tax and not given incentives to be so selective in who they hire.

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who swallows this racist crap from the English gutter press are acting in support of racism.

Get it straight, empty heads, more people eave the UK and die here than the number who enter.

Those leaving and dying do not pay tax or NI, as is the case with incoming people, so where does it hurt the economy.

No, numbnuts, it does not.

As long as they allow skilled people here, then I dont see a problem. However, if they turn up are given a house and live off benefits then no, they should be sent back home.

Yes, I do worry about this.....There is far to many immigrants in this country as it is......we need to stop it before native Brits are bred out of their own country.....Enoch Powell warned us of this years ago!
