Do you think that the US was trying to start a country with separation of church and state. Do you believe our forefathers may have been religious but at the same time realized that past governments were plagued with a system where politics combined with religion dictated everything. As with my other questions, this is just a chance for me to learn from you guys. I really do not have a clue regarding this subject.

Thanks for the answers.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I was thinking about that very same thing just yesterday. I wonder what kind of environment Americas forefathers lived in. What driving forces made them feel that they could start something better?

I think there were many different goals to start a new country like some of the signers were smugglers, most were free masons, some were religious rejects many were criminals. The church had a long history of interferance, and they did not prescrib that religion stay out of state affairs but that the state stay out of religious affairs just for the record

politics and religion work at opposite purposes. religion seeks to impose order, politics seeks to compromise for the good of all. our founding fathers were aware of the problems which caused strife between people, and the necessity of compromise to achiev a goal. they also understood that if one religion was opposed to another, there would never be a peaceful resolution except by one religion being dominant over all others. they decided to prevent such from occurring by refusing to allow religion to be imposed on people who had different religious views and values by denying it a formal place within the governmental structure.

Sure. Those visionaries recognized the excesses of religion in past societies and wanted to avoid that happening within the confines what was to become to United States.
