Do you really need a blind? How about putting up a curtain rod and hanging good quality, fabric napkins over it in a pattern you like that matches the room? You hang them so that the point of the corner hangs over and each one slightly overlaps which creates a sort of zigzag effect. It's a no-sew project and you can change it out easily anytime.

The ideas of the shutters and blinds are nice they are a very clean look and offer privacy.
It you are wanting to add some fabric, but also want privacy, look into having made or making roman shades, You can do a relaxed roman, which is a bit softer, or a dog-earred roman for a bit more romance. There are probably about 15 ways to make roman shades. As far as fabrics go, Red is a great kitchen color, and a punch of color would be good. A toile can be a classic fabric selection, Black and white or off white toiles are very easy to live with.
You could also add a simple one piece valance. Takes up very little space and when mounted on a pole or finials, they can add some architectural personality to the window.

Try a wooden blind. Painted red perhaps? ... or just go to your Local Home Depot,Lowes,etc..and they have many styles, you can look at the different ones and see which suits your fancy - or- I'm sure where you live they have Wallpaper Galleries, usually at those places they have MANY books filled with pages upon pages or wallpapers (Even at Home Depot and Lowes) and I'm pretty SURE you'll find a kitchen like yours and you can see how they have it decorated, and also at the Wallpaper Galleries, they have Interior Decorators that work in there, and you can ask one of them what type of blind would go with your new kitchen.

Another rather classic option would be to install wooden shutters. They are more expensive than wooden blinds, but sounds like they would look nice. Painted like the first answer suggested.

Use indoor shutters- They look great and are different.
They open and close together or individual.
The early 15th/16th/17th century look.
Also blinds made vert/horz from different materials can be used.
But shutters are really neat.
Lowes-home depot-ect carries these.
also you can order on line>
