for the first time in history, it is cheaper to get a pc that is far superior for gaming than a console, the previous answerer was wrong, and also, your system can be upgraded, making it much cheaper over a few years. you just have to build the system yourself, and skimp on the components that don't matter. spend big on motherboard, processor and gpu, skimp on hard drive space and dvd burner. buy cheap fans, and a cheap case. the playstation 3 is currently slated to be 500 dollars u.s. or more, and for that much money, you could build one hell of a system, and play it on a high res flatscreen, and still have money left over. plus consider that the online gaming for pc is already established, where playstation is just getting started. and in a few years, instead of paying 600 bucks for a playstation 4, you can just pay maybe 100 dollars for a new gpu, new cpu, maybe ram, and still kill it in graphics power and online capability. plus, you can watch movies, save photos, run software, watch tv, download music and movies, store tons of files, look at satellite photos, email, talk to people on skype, rotoscope, edit home movies, edit photos, read articles, read ebooks, write ebooks, refill your mp3 player, browse the internet, play free games, render computer graphics, play two games at once, run a file server, run a file sharer, run a p2p, write programs, run algorithms, design webpages, create art, improve existing art, have a card reader for you camera, and have it interface with other computers. your ps3 can only do a very limited number of things, and the games that come out for it will come out for both it and pc anyway.

If your PC can handle it then go with PC, theres mods. Which can add sooo much more to the game. Heres a link to a place to get skyrim for the pc, if you give them 60$, you get the game for FREE

Compared to game consoles, PCs just cannot compete, unless you have a lot of money to spend. Get the console, the PS3 comes with Linux preinstalled, so you can do other things on it apart from games.
