We just adopted a kitten and arent sure whats ok for it to eat. Car food obviously. He eats it mixed with water still. Is tuna ok too? If so, how much? Mixed in with food? How about mixing the dry cat food with the tuna juice?

the tuna juice is nasty oily crap! even ppl drain that before they eat tuna.
hopefully you get the tuna packaged in WATER and NOT oil.

as for giving it to a cat....you have to remember that PEOPLE food is processed and prepared for OUR systems to handle. not everything that we eat is okay for them. such as cows milk. big no no, their bodies can't break that stuff down.

talk to you vet about what treats you can give your kitten. if you don't have a vet NOW would be a perfect time to find one, since the kitten will need it's vaccs. *if not gotten them already*

around 10weeks, we always just let them have the dry food, w/out mixing w/water.

after that, little liver treats, and things like small *and i do mean small* amounts of chicken or salmon are what my vet recommended, but i never asked about tuna. i hardly touch the stuff anymore. it's meat out of a can, just can't stomach it...reminds me of spam.

It is okay to give cats tuna fish in general...but I would not start off giving a kitten of eight weeks tuna all the time.

I would say it is okay for a treat every now and then but not all the time. I would start with a fork full and as the kitten gets older increase the amount and frequency.

Mixing the dry food with tuna juice would not be good...too much oils can give the kitten diarrhea.

Just be careful on what you really feed him/her.

Tuna is not good for a cat, it can cause urinary infections, cats are very prone to these infections. If your cat isn't eating her hard food well, mix it with a small amount of water, if you want to treat her mix her hard food with a little bit of canned kitten food. But only until she is eating regularly, cause cats will get adjusted to eating only soft food and it is a habit that is hard to break, soft food should only be given as a treat in the future. Cats have a very sensitive digestive tract, she should not get anything that a human would eat, including milk. Certain dairy products can cause kittens to get worms.

Kittens are difficult when young, my kitten is not 14 weeks old and we brought her home at 6 weeks old and man was it a rough way to go, getting her to eat and use her litter box. So hopefully my feeding trick will work for your new baby.... good luck.

You should be feeding the kitten, kitten food which is available at all supermarkets. You can give him tuna every now and then as a treat but not all the time.

All cats love tuna and any other type of fish but if they have to much it can cause some UTI problems for them. Just remember only give it to them as a treat.

Good Luck with your new kitten.

Actually I would stick with kitten chow for a couple more months. If you feed the kitten something rich, like tuna, you might give him the runs, which could quickly lead to serious health problems including dehydration. At 8 weeks, he still has his little milk teeth, so mixing with water is great. There is also KMR or kitten milk replacement that you can get at pet stores, or Wal-Mart that you can supplement his diet with, but you should be fine with just kitten chow.

As mentioned above. The only "real" risk is... It will only eat top shelf food.
Health wise tuna is a good thing.
Raw chicken wings with the flesh cut loose are ok to feed it after 10 -12 weeks. Never cooked chicken, the bones may splinter and choke them
I avoid tinned and dried foods and never, never feed them milk.
I do however keep a packet of dried food on hand for emergencies.
Oh yeah, dont feed them pork either, it has some kind of disease that doesn't affect humans, but is bad for animals.

Sure it is, just a bit. He'll love the tuna juice - all my cats have. Don't mix the dry food with the tuna juice - that would be gross.

Try a little chicken broth with the dry food instead. I wouldn't start tuna if I were you. I spoiled my dog and she won't eat anything but human food now. Milk gives them the runs, so avoid. Good luck.
