When you join the military your total obligation is for a total of 10 years, since you served 5 years in the Army you were placed on inactive ready reserves (IRR) for 3 additional years. Your obligation to the military ended in 2000. Your a civilian now with no obligation to fill any longer.

if you were enlisted than you have no worries, IRR only applies to officers, because when you enlist its an active obiligation for a certain said amount of time, when you left they gave you a discharge papers, but for officers we sign something different and get an appointment and agreement saying we must serve 8 years as an officer, minimum of 3/4 years in an active status as a Active Duty, NG, or Reserves with the remaining number in the IRR. If officers served 6 yrs and than got it they have 2 yrs left where they go on IRR

You will be on the reserve list until the equivalent of 22 years service has been completed. You will then go into a pool of reserve until you are 55 years of age. This is regardless of whether you have volunteered for it or not

The best thing to do (if you still have it) is to read your initial contract. It will state the amount of time you are committed to the IRR.
Double check it against your DD214.
I was an active duty officer for 3 years and then was honorably discharged as a captain once my 8 year IRR commitment was completed.
If you are still in the IRR, then yes you are eligible for recall.

yes, after only 5 years service you remain on the long term reserve until you reach the point of 22 years service from your original service commencment date, how ever in reality the chances are very slim of you being called up

your initial service obligation ended in 2000(8 years total commitment). Unless you had the most desperately needed job skill, you are fine unless you volunteer yourself.

Yes. The reason is that you did not complete 12 years.

It depends on how many years you signed up for. I signed up for six years. I served four years active and two years as a reservist. After my six years was up, I received my honorable discharge and I could not be called back.
