I cover my hair and i know my motives but i was just wondering how non-muslims see this practice? Thank you in advance for your responses.....

I appreciate all of your answers and thank you all for being so honest. The reason Muslim women cover their hair is modesty. The thought is that if you cover your hair and your body nothing is left to be shown but your personality. It is impossible for a man to see you as a sex object b/ he cannot see the things that men use to define a woman as sexy or not.

it is not a thing of oppression. i am not married. my family is not muslim. honestly, there are many people in my life that would prefer i did not where it. I am 100% American and i cover because i love what it does for my life. Covering is a personal choice that women make to empower themselves and allow for people only to see who they are at their cores.

(Even though this was kind of long it is the readers digest version.... anyone interested in anything more in depth can please contact me)

Thank you all so much for your time

Asalamwalaikum

Honestly? I'm not fussed. what people of certain religions do and believe in is up to them.
its not for the world to stereotype people for reasons such as: 'oh, she wears a scarfe over her head. she MUST be a terrorist'
its what people believe in, or were brought up to believe in. nobody has the right to tell you what you should do, follow, believe in etc; stand tall and proud! i say

I want to tell you that religious Jewish women who are married also cover their hair. The reason has to do with laws concerning modesty in dress and behavior and the relationship between the sexes.

So, I understand that you are following your religious beliefs as well, and I just wanted to show you that Jews and Muslims have something in common in this matter.

I think we should all respect each other's religious beliefs and even more than that - appreciate and understand them and we will all benefit from this attitude.

I work at a college and interact with Muslim women all the time - both as a co-worker and as an administrator. It never bothers me. After seeing it for a while, you don't even notice it. And as long as you are willing to explain what it means to those who don't understand, I think most people don't really have a problem with it.

at first, how do i've got faith? If the female is only protecting her hair, i don't see it as a situation till she gets persecuted for not protecting her hair. If the female is protecting her finished face in spite of the undeniable fact that, it is yet another remember, as she is protecting her identity, and a economic corporation or passport place of work or police officer working example would take exception. not all muslim women human beings conceal their hair, to my constrained know-how the Koran instructs the two women and men human beings do dress modestly, yet what dressing modestly skill would selection from way of existence to way of existence and custom to custom. with the objective to three muslim women human beings from particular cultures and traditions this would incorporate protecting the hair. apparently, the e book Corinthians of the Christian bible instructs women human beings to conceal their head mutually as praying, yet maximum Christian women human beings do not. someplace else in the bible (Timothy) women everybody is stated to dress modestly. in the style of existence of contemporary western society hair isn't coated, cleavage would be shown and short clothing are ideal. i think of there are various factors to this question, way of existence, custom and faith.

I dont mind covering hair but covering the face and only leaving a gap for the eyes is a bit extreme I just wonder how they manage to get their passport photos or I.D cards..

I see it as a very modest and beautiful thing as you are following your religious beliefs. I do cover my hair in a small manner but not the same as you.

I think it is respectful, as Saint Paul in the New Testament also advises it in church.. But covering the face seems too extreme, in my opinion...

I see it as their own personal choice. It doesn't offend me in any way. Whether it's cultural or religious, go for it. I do it sometimes myself when I'm working (although it never looks as elegant as someone who knows what they're doing!)
