It's called 'trigger'. You can have one or more in an area and it is miserable. A trigger is where one or more muscles contract and will not retract. You need to get with a massage therapist that is familiar with triggers.
Sooner or later you will discover that what I am telling you is true. If your condition was like mine you would do anything for relief so, don't wait until later.
Good Luck!

See a good doctor! Never take any decisions based on your own knowledge. Especially such pains are known to be persistent. Only doctor can diagnose whether it is muscle spasm, and virus or just a routine shoulder pain.
Never stop sleeping without a pillow, use a recron fibre pillow to support your neck. Make sure that the pillow is not unduly broad, a slim pillow is just right.

There's many self treatments for a pulled muscle/ligament in the neck and shoulder area. Your really looking at a ambiguous injury until your seen by a medical physician, so they then can determine the grade of your injury. Furthermore, if you don't feel relief within the next 1-2 weeks I recommend you get evaluated by your primary physician.

oh yes it sounds like you slept the wrong way and it can take days to get rid of that crick. You probably will get headaches from it too. Change your pillow and maybe see a doctor about that and he can tell you what to do.
Avoid looking at the computer too long without moving, dont watch tv laying down. Put the hot shower on your neck and shoulder blades and slowly move your head side to side
Those are all cords, youd be surprised how they all get pulled the wrong way and cause alot of greif..

sounds like you have some muscles in a knot there. Get a towel into some hot water and wring it out, place that right around the muscles that hurt, then massage the muscles when you're not using heat
