Usually he will talk about her a lot. If he does, then he will use you as his sounding board. If it annoys you, then you should confront him. Have a genuine conversation and try and understand.
You may have to tell him that it's somewhat a burden on you and you may have to back off a little.

Giving him any ultimatums will be useless. If one loves someone whose gone, its because he can't help it. They will only try to hide it to stay in your grace.

You have to look within your self, weigh your options, and make your decision.

He keeps talking about her and won't shut up about her. Everything is about her. How long have you 2 been dating. I bet her and him have been having problems. I bet he still calls her. Do not, I repeat, do not fall in love with this man. This is, as they say, a lost cause. I bet he is just using you for sex. Take it from somebody who has been there and done that. Even if he calls her the "b" word, don't fall for it.

Does he talk about her. Does every conversation, or everything you do together seem to end up with him saying something... anything, about her? Or does he totaly listen to you. Hang on your every word. Are you half of his whole... or only one third? You are the only one who can answer your own question. You have to look deep inside and not be afraid what you will see to get the true answer to your question. Just the fact that you have posted it casts doubt that you are 100% sure of him. Just see the answer, it's inside you.

let him take u out for dinner or something and in the public place just ask him about his ex and how he feels now that they are separated.. make him comfortable first so that he can say 'i dont want to talk about it' .. If he really feels something tht will reflect in his tone, expressions and eyes !
BEST OF LUCK

check his pulse

seriously, talk to him

we men don't like to give things up - ex gf's, wives, bike parts, tools etc., so it takes a bit of effort to let go of one thing

There is pretty much only one way, sit down with him, and ask him face to face.
