I think tou are getting your wires crossed here. radio is as you know transmitted and you recieve on a hi-fi etc. MP3 is a format in which music is saved. Using MP3 saves space as the file is smaller.

You can record radio into MP3's and you can play MP3's over the radio - as for the rest, I share the opinion above.
