RC comes after beta
beta is the stage when the software is actively debugged and release candidate refers to a final product, ready to release unless fatal bugs emerge.
another way to put it, beta versions have lots of bugs...release candidate versions have fewer bugs

Beta has a negative connotation or inference.
RC does not have this same association. Yet!
