Sounds like you (like I do) have TMJ. If you have dental insurance see your Dentist or an orthodontist. If not go to Walmart or the like and get a mouth piece you can trim and heat and fit to your mouth. It works! It gets psychological because you have to deal with pain. Its not in your mind!

do not east chewy food! No gum.
Here is a snippet from TMJ.org

Symptoms:
Pain is the most common symptom. TMJ pain is often described as a dull aching pain in the jaw joint and nearby areas, including the ear, which comes and goes. Some people, however, report no pain, but still have problems using their jaws. Other symptoms can include:
Being unable to open the mouth comfortably
Clicking, popping or grating sounds in the jaw joint
Locking of the jaw when attempting to open the mouth
Headaches
A bite that feels uncomfortable or “off”
Neck, shoulder and back pain
Swelling on the side of the face

Additional symptoms may include: ringing in the ears, ear pain, decreased hearing, dizziness and vision problems.

Keep in mind that occasional discomfort in the jaw joint or chewing muscles is common, and is not always a cause for concern. Many people with certain TMJ problems get better without treatment. Often the problem goes away on its own in several weeks to months. However, if the pain is severe and lasts more than a few weeks, see your healthcare provider.

It's probably a combination. Jaw pain and headaches can be caused by tension/anxiety. Pain causes/increases anxiety.

It could be worthwhile for you to get a dental check up to make sure you don't have an infection or misalignment of your jaw.

Muscular tension can build up in your shoulders, neck and jaws. It is a definite cause of head pain, probably the main cause for constant pain which does respond to treatment.

I have finally found an acupuncturist to help me with a similar problem. It's a painful treatment, but I have tried so many treatments over the years, and they were a disappointing waste of time, hope and money.

Have you tried one of those Thermocare hot packs on you neck? They aren't too expensive and they work for 16 hours. I've found some temporary relief with them.

Working at the computer can really get this syndrome going too, so try changing position and stretching while you're using your computer and/or take lots of breaks.

Hi, blu. Call the hospital nearest you (and then maybe others that are close) and ask them if they have an indigent program. I know, that sounds as though you'd have to be homeless and living in total poverty. However, that's not true. You can have a job, car, and even own a home and still qualify. I've worked at 2 hospitals in my area and both of them had these programs. Also, if you do end up seeing a physician in an office situation, ask the office manager if he/she would be willing to accept payment according to what insurance would pay. Often times a visit costs $75 and insurance only pays $45 -- some offices will accept the $45 from you. It doesn't hurt to ask. Also, they usually will set up a payment plan that is reasonable. Good luck. Let us know how you do.

This is definitely physical, you probably have deteriorating cartilage in your jaw. Does it click if you open your mouth to wide? for me personally I went to see a specialist and did some tests on my jaw and it was that the cartilage in my jaw doesn't line up. So the bone is grinding with the bone. Plus I use to grind my teeth when I slept, because of this. The doc also said my mouth never got a moments rest. I suffered with migraines and jaw pain for years. It was so bad I would just put my head down and cry. Have it checked out to know for sure.

Hi,
It sounds like you are suffering from TMJ. I have it and it is no fun. you can try a mouth guard (one that you can get at Walmart in the same place you would get floss and things like that) or just go to your dentist and explain what is going on and ask about a splint, its great, its this thing that you ware in your mouth all of the time but take it out when you eat. you even sleep with it in. it separates the back teeth and takes some of the pressure off the joint. You may be grinding your teeth at night in your sleep or if you have hit your chin lately that could have done it as well.
I hope that is of some help

I'm not a dr, but maybe TMJ, I have this and I've wondered if that's what contributes/causes my chronic headaches.

Or maybe you're grinding your teeth during sleep. Best to check with a dr to rule out other causes. Stress also, I find myself clenching my jaw a lot.

You have TMJ, see a dentist and get a nighttime mouth guard. Simple solution to a very common problem.

get someone to observe you sleep to see if you grit your teeth. This can result in jaw pain and headache. If so buy a mouth guard available at drug stores.
