I am sick and tired of all the police corruption. I think that this will be the perfect plan to weed them out.

I think we need to have a Citizens Investigatory Commission armed with Poly Graph and lie detection equipment. We need to ask a series of questions to every police officer every six months.

These questions would be as follows.

1. Have you or have you witnessed any Police Misconduct within the last six months?

2. Have you or have you framed any suspects, lied, or manipulated the constitution. Lied under oath or have done any other wrongdoing concerning suspects.

3. Have you or any officer used any excessive force or brutality?

4. Have you or any officer covered up or used the Blue Shield to sweep under the rug any criminal activity by the police force.

5. Have you or any officer engaged in any criminal activity felonies or misdimeanors?

6. Have you or any officers used your position in appropriately for gain?

There could be more.

How many police officers do you think could take this test and pass?

I bet not too many.

I bet police would never consent to such an action and yet they claim that they are so honest and clean.

The police unions would raise holy hell about legislation to this effect.

This may seem like an invasion of privacy but the police have the power to do immediate executions on the street.

Police have the power of life and death and have the right to kill people and get away with it.

This is why we need to hold police to a higher standard of decency. We cannot afford Bad Cops in the system because the damage to humanity and citizens can be atrocities.

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link and there are too many weak links in the police force.

I propose that this lie detection system would bring back the respect and decency to the police force with honor and integrity.

This is exactly what the police need and for the decency of society.

You're right they're not 100% accurate, just 97% accurate.

They're not evidence in court yet the police use them all the time against society. They're used for investigatory purposes.

I'm suggesting that they be used for investigatory purposes on police also as they are used against criminal suspects.

Once a corrupt police officer was exposed using the poly graph, he wouldn't have to be fired but an Internal Affairs team could start surveillance on the suspected police officer.

The investigative IA team could start interviewing the people that the Corrupt Officer arrested, framed, set up, testsified against falsely.

Or initiate proper investigative steps to verity and confirm if the polygraph is correct.

One guy suggested who is going to pay for this. I say society as a whole can't afford not to pay for this.

How much is the value of innocent human life the bad cops kill or incarcerate falsely.

To Bonsylar,

What do you mean they would all walk off. Do you mean to tell me that they are all dirty.

That they have committed wrongdoing or other crimes or brutality?

The police always say on this site that if you have nothing to hide that you should have no problem with the police investigating you without probable cause.

So I say that if cops have nothing to hide that they should welcome these tests.

I would even go one step further to make these tests an incentive for the police officers.

I would recommend and suggest that any police officer that passed these tests get a $5,000 bonus. That would be their reward to the honest and good cops out there.

I would gladly be a police officer and be happy to take these tests because I have nothing to hide.

As far as you being a preschool teacher, you say you wouldn't rat out your co-workers for what touching children or using drugs on the job around children.

Well maybe your line of work needs polygraphs too

You're right. No one wants to be a cop anymore because police's reputations have been destroyed from all the corruption, brutality, lying, criminal activity, rapes, murders within the police department.

Everyone in society basically knows what cops are all about but they let it go because they think that police are the lesser of two evils.

I want to bring back the respect, dignity and honor that the police need to be.

If my system was initiated, I bet that children would want to become police officers again when they grow up.

Bring back respect, professionalism, truth.

I would gladly take the polygraph for the $52,000 per year that police make in L.A. starting pay plus benefits.

Let me remind you though that this is for all police not just L.A.

I must say that the L.A.P.D. seems to me like they really have cleaned up quite a bit because of the exposure of filming bad cops.
I would just like to see Police cleaned up everywhere.

To the officers that just answered below. You say that only 95% of police are good. Well that means that 5% of police are corrupt, I personally think it is much higher, but let's go with the 5%.

5% bad cops is an unacceptable number. That could mean that 5% of the people on death row were innocent and framed by these crooked cops. 5% of the people in prison could be falsely there from these bad cops.

That is a horrific number to say the least. Unfortunately I think that it is much greater than 5%.

Let's take the notorious Blue Shield of silence. Let's just say that 20% of the police know about these bad 5% committing crimes and murders and framing people and these 20% keep their mouth shut.

That would make these 20% of cops keeping their mouths shut aiding and abetting these 5%.

While they may not be actively participating in these crimes, they know and are aiding and abetting by silence.

That means that 25% of the police force is bad. We're talking real evil.

Lie detectors are not 100% effective, they're not even allowed as evidence in court.

A lot of stuff here.

Give me an example when a police officer has executed someone for the sake of killing. Can't do it can you.

In every posting you have made you make wild accusations and have wilder solutions. Do you live in the real world? And that's not a rhetorical quesiton.

If these conspiracies, etc are rampant-then why are you still able to post these crazy statements? Why aren't you dead? Or at least in some prison?

If life is so bad in your part of the world, then leave. I am sure that places like Iran, Iraq, Rwanda would take a guy like you.

Yawn...just more cop bashing.

Go ahead and hate and blame and generalize and all that garbage. Have some crook point a gun at you and you'll be the first one whining about why there wasn't a cop there to protect you.

This little proposal of yours is just wanting to take what is already one of the most dangerous, stressful, unrewarding and maligned professions and making it even more so. Cops are people first, and like all people don't want to be treated with suspicion and like they're under some investigation unless there is a cause.

Wanna know who hates crooked cops (the maybe 1% you want to paint as the majority) more than you?? - Other COPS! We often have ways of weeding out our own bad apples w/out airing all the dirty laundry and giving cop-haters like you more ammunition.

To paraphrase Jack Nicholson:
"You sleep under the blanket of protection that I provide, and then question the manner in which I provide it?" How about YOU put on a unifrom, put on the shield, pick up the gun AND PATROL A BEAT. Armchair libertarian.

Man, it's nice to see someone else fighting the good fight out there. Honestly, I don't think your plan is perfect, per se, but it's a good start. I'd insist that the polygraph be administered by the public defender's office, for starters. Anyone else, the police might be tempted to intimidate. I'd require frequent, random drug testing. Periodic reviews by psychplogists would be useful, as well as unfettered acces to bank and financial records. The DA should be required to investigate allegations of misconduct rather than allowing the police discretion on which cases to forward. ANY infraction involving a firearm including accidental discharge or injury to a bystander causes you to lose your job and the right to own firearms, permanently. You may not get prosecuted for shooting the guy with the can of soda you thought was a gun, but you don't get the chance to do it again, EVER. And last but not least, additional mandatory prison time for any crime committed in the course of duty by police or prosecutors (we could call this the Nancy Grace rule).

A few other ideas...
No plea bargains for felonies. Fund the PD's office at the same level and provide all the same resources available to the DA's office. Ban officers from carrying guns if the duty does not require it, for example, you don't need a gun to write tickets, or take reports, or respond to noise complaints. Eliminate privatized prisons. No more mandatory minimum sentences (except as noted above). Eliminate the statutes for felony murder, habitual criminality, and 'add-on' crimes like school-zone areas or multiple crimes within a certain period. And last, bar the government from confiscating private property

Anyway, do what \you can. I am. Pax!

Hey, lmn? People generally don't like cops PRECISELY because they tend to treat everyone like a suspect. We can't point guns back at the bad guys ourselves because of police who want EVERYONE disarmed, except themselves. Us 'cop-haters', as you put it, can only use what you yourselves provide us as ammunition. And in the movie that you quote from, Jack Nicholson's character ended up being ARRESTED for displaying the very attitude you profess. The ends don't justify the means, was the point of the film. So much for your critical thinking skills. I daresay, if police are the noble, longsuffering creatures you make them out to be, both they and the public you allegedly serve would benefit by your departure to greener pastures.

Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps all the "corruption" you are ranting about is due to the fact that when a cop goes bad and commits crime it is front page news. Their is a source to weed out the bad cops....the media... and ask yourself this...who caught them? Other non-criminal cops! The majority of police are good people who answered a call within themselves to become cops. Yes, there have been many cases of police corruption just as there are many corrupt doctors, lawyers, politicians, and every other profession. They have a job which for the most part is thankless, stressful and full of b.s. from people like yourself. No one on here will ever sway your prejudice for the police, it is obviously too deep inside you for whatever reason.

Number 1 Not all Law enforcement officers are "Cops" Not as many as you think are corrupt. In fact the 95% of us Good Police Officers/Deputies/ State Patrol Officers are Tired of people trying to yell at us, blame us for their stupidity, and then except us to solve all of your problems in a matter of seconds that was years in the making. Secondly were are tired of the Double standard. If Somebody kills a Police Officer you don't care if someone kills your family member you expect results right away. If we are forced to use Deadly Force to save the life of someone- including the Officers, then you want us to charged with a crime. So my Advice is-
If you are not satisfied with your local Law Enforcement then-
A. Move B. Go to school and become one. C. Tell your State's Atty. Generals Office. D. Stop Breaking the Law.

Cops (good and bad) have a very hard job. A job that no one wants. These people put their lives on the line everyday, with little Thanks and even less pay. Dealing with the scum of the earth so we don't have to.
If your plan goes into effect, no one will become cops and I bet anything they will walk off the job.
I'm a preschool teacher, never done a bad thing in my life, but if someone came at me with a polygraph and wanted me to narc on my co-workers, I would get up and leave. There are just some lines you don't cross.
Ever heard of the McCarthy Hearings? Spanish Inquisition? Hitler? Joseph Stalin? Look them up. Seriously.

EDIT
NO ONE wants to be a cop these days.
You talk the big talk, but if your house is robbed, who you gonna call? Who you gonna blame? Yeah, cops. Maybe you should walk the walk, before you talk the talk.

Firstly, who is going to pay for this? Are you going to be happy with paying higher taxes because you think your force has a couple of bad apples? Second, who's going to be out on the streets keeping citizens safe from scumbags? I'm sure the last thing a good cop needs after having to deal with some of the things us not police people don't have to, is some jumped up panel of twats accusing them of being dirty. I do believe they have Internal Affairs for such matters of corruption, if you believe in it so strongly, go join them.

each cellular has DNA and it really is consisted of two strands tightly woven round one yet another. the element that stops both strands from breaking aside is called a telomeric cap (it somewhat is random nucleotide sequences said as nonsense codons. Codon is a three sequence of nucleotides that codes for amino acids eg. CUU is a amino acid said as proline . A nonsense codon is one which doesnt code for any amino acid production) each and anytime your cells divide a small sequence is lost there through reducing the soundness of the cellular's DNA (in layman's words). this would ultimately lead do maximum of Ur cells' DNA transforming into risky. and commonly at the same time as a mistake takes position in DNA the cellular will carry out motor vehicle cytolysis (cellular suicide) to stay away from issues. So once you're previous maximum of ur cells telomeric caps will be low and they are weak to die at the same time as they conflict to divide.. Whats somewhat exciting about this theory is the impression it has on evolution (because this happens on both meiotic to boot as mitotic divisions. which signifies that a species grows previous too earlier it mutates.. yet thats a diverse tale)

Yes, there is a continuing problem with police corruption. Americans do not take this problem seriously enough, in my opinion. Americans are uncomfortable with the idea that the guy that comes to their door after they call 9-1-1 is perhaps of a similar moral ilk as the criminal. This is a sad situation.
