I'm looking around, and I feel like I'm stuck in the middle.

Although there are a few almost-enlightening ideas in it, the Bible is mostly just endless fairy-tale. I see no real value in it... and it is in no way "the word of god"

Now hear me out...

I do believe in Jesus the Man, not Jesus the myth. The more I think about his story, the more I take away from it.

I also believe in God. Not as a supreme being... But as existence... pure and simple existence.

To me God is the state of being and awareness.

I also do not believe in heaven, an eternal afterlife seems rediculous. I believe that our lives are everything. Nothing exists beyond them, because nothing can exist beyond everything.

Maybe heaven is accepting that fact... maybe heaven is feeling that you've made the lives of others better.

Regardless of all that...
I have no place in my life or my heart for things like the church or the bible... They do NOTHING for the spirit. What am I?

This is a very brief look at the way I feel about things. It's far from complete, as I can go on for hours about it.... Sharing these thought and ideas is, in my opinion, important in finding your spiritual self.

Basically I just wanted to see how others thought. I have no need for labels... well other than the one I can't avoid... Human.

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”
Buddha

If you continue searching you are known as a Seeker of Truth by those of us that do the same thing.

If you don't believe that Jesus was a man and God, then you must conclude that he was a megalomaniac, having claimed that the only way to God was through him. No sane man says, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Light." Those words are spoken by one of two people: (1) someone who is insane or (2) someone who is telling the truth--who is man and God.

There is nothing especially wonderful about existence in and of itself. If you believe that God is existence, then it must follow that you--who is part of existence--are God....as is the grass in your front yard. If everything and yet nothing is God, everything and yet nothing is God. If there are no distinctions, nothing is distinct. Everything blends together as being "God," and therefore there is nothing special, nothing apart, nothing higher and nothing lower.

If God is a state, then God is not eternal, as states fluctuate. If God is not eternal, then God is useless and as impotent and vacillating as we.

If you believe that this life is all there is, then there is no reason to search for anything higher. You have already found. Enjoy.

But first ask: What is the thing in you that seeks that which you believe cannot be found? What planted it there? If this is all there is, why, do you think, we have in us this desire to seek something else--i.e., that which is higher, i.e., that which is eternal?

It is not heaven to accept the fact that there is nothing higher or outside of this world. It is fatalism. Fatalism does not bring hope or joy. It brings rote deadness...if not today, then tomorrow.

If you have no place in your heart for the church or the Bible, then you are a seeker who is unwittingly doing the bidding of God's enemy. God's enemy would like you to believe that the potential for heaven is within you, so you do not seek that which is beyond yourself...so that you seek to content yourself with this world, because if your eyes are focused on this one, God's enemy has won the battle for your soul.

You are obviously a seeker. I hope that you continue to seek, and that you do, in fact, find.

God bless you in your search.

You are a normally thinking human being, being fully concious of today's reality in science, culture, technology, civilization and cannot accept what was told to our ancestors, that had to fill the gap in their minds about their life and well being.
You are at a point where you met Man, incarnation of Holiness.
Regarding the spirit... All religions give solid instructions of what to do and what not to do, because they are among the primary things Man invented to ameliorate his life and the rules are common and very simple: do not kill, do not steal, do not cheat.... and they stay the same up to date.
They say not much about the spirit, because spirit is complicated, difficult to reach as an idea and understand, so all religions leave it aside and deal with "easy" things like everyday conduct, rituals, procedures and lists of "do's" and "don't s"as if they refered to small children.
Don't worry! You are OK. Do not get anxious to stick a label on yourself. Feel free and some day you will decide what you really are and what you want to believe in!
Take care.

You are a lost soul. You need to pray and ask God to show you the truth. Satan has blinded you so bad it isn't funny. Read the book of John over and over. The more people disbelieve the more Satan has won. There is a Heaven and there is a Hell. The Bible is God's love letter to us. You have free will to believe or disbelieve. I would rather live like there is a Heaven, and find out in the end that I am wrong. We will all stand before Christ and give an account for our lives. Read Luke 16:20 and on.

You're entitled to your own opinions, but it kind of sounds to me like you are working with an incomplete set of information. Can I suggest that you read a book about the Bible, like "Knowing The Bible 101" by Bruce Brickel & Stan Jantz. You'll learn that you are almost right about the Old Testament. It's basically a history book. You'll also learn that everything changed when God's son Jesus was born and that the New Testament is how we should live our lives today.

Have you tried to figure out how the earth was created? It's unexplainable, just like our awesome God is unexplainable.

Big Daddy T,
I have the definitive question for you. This question will either get you to stop worrying you, or make you even more upset. So if you are afraid, don't read any further, okay? The question is down below, so don't look if you are afraid. Here it goes:

Do you WANT to come to God? If you do, that's Him drawing you in. If you don't, then leave it alone, it's none of your concern. Just leave it alone and have a good life, while it lasts.

I like the way you put it....You should read the book called 'Conversations with God'. (don't get scared by the name...its not religious) God is the coolest dude around in the book and He says similar things that you saying. Read it...and then you won't feel stuck. Happy reading.

Well I don't think you need to classify yourself in some sort of religious category....if that's what you meant by "what am I?" If you've already got things figured out for yourself then you just believe what you believe and that's all there is to it. Don't worry about what other people think, you shouldn't have to catogorize yourself. And if someone asks "what you are" then tell them what you believe and let that be that.

A thinking believer in Jesus, that's what I'd call you. Maybe you don't need a label.
